My mates at the rescue centre Empty My mates at the rescue centre

Post by Keith Tue Oct 16 2012, 20:15

Just thought you might like to see some of my doggy mates at the rescue I foster for.
There are some right characters among them.

First up is Charlie the hairy pug/shih tsu cross.
Charlie has the looks to become a film star and it is rumoured that he is distantly related to Chewbacca.
He wears this expression constantly. His little mate Millie is in the background - she has the world's tiniest legs.

My mates at the rescue centre Morefostersa005

Next up are Sox and Storm, who are a closely-bonded pair of Akitas. Both are expert treat sniffers and everyone loves walking them as they are so calm and relaxed.

My mates at the rescue centre Soxandstrom6

Then, there's Arthur the zebra lurcher. He is so relaxed and so light on the lead that it feels like you're walking air. In hundreds of miles of walkies, no one has ever seen him pull.

My mates at the rescue centre Arthur2

Ginger is up next - he's always busy working or doing something in his kennel. He and his mates look like little workmen going about their business in their kennels.

My mates at the rescue centre Ginger2

Beam is one of my favourites - an older mastiff girl but a really nice lump, too. She seems quite relaxed with her various kennel mates - they tend to come and go, while she waits. No one wants the oldies. Crying or Very sad

My mates at the rescue centre Beam6

The fine-looking Bruno is a great boy - he likes his walks and loves his treats. He's a very obedient dog.

That's it for now - I have loads more doggy mates in the rescue but this thread is long enough already. Blushing

Charlie is super-cool. Some people were interested in him and Millie on Saturday, so hopefully he'll find his forever home very soon.

My most favourite is Silver.

He only has three legs and has been in kennels for a long time because of it, but he's got one of the best kennels going, and gets loads of attention and walkies. Wink

Such an easy pair to work with.

They never row, and are like each other's shadow.

They're to be homed together as they are so bonded it's unbelievable.

Never hear them bark, and always really sensible leaving kennels for a walk.

You've had it if you have treats in your pocket though - they can both open a pocket flap. Laughing

Might clear up, might need surgical intervention.
Either way, he's as calm as anything and a proper stunner to look at.

Hob Nob is also new in - and is one of the "softest" large dogs I've ever met - a really gentle boy.

He has hip dysplasia, apparently, which is causing him to not bear full weight on his back end. The more I look at him walk though, the more I think it looks like a nerve problem. But I'm not a vet.

He follows me around the kennels like I'm his brother or something. Lovely big boy.

Chunk is another mega-softy.
Hard not to love this boy's mannerisms and unpushy nature.
Always takes treats very gently and really tries his best to please.
Not sure of his breed really.

Prince is one of my newest mates.
This little collie cross male is a bit shy - and now a bit unsure of himself because he took a trip to the vets and when he returned, his kennel mates had been rehomed.

So, he's sat there testicle-less and mate-less until Friday, when he'll get some new companions.

I took him back to the rescue from the vet yesterday and was told to expect a groggy dog. What I actually got was a lively chap who decided to hide mid-way back by burrowing under the waterproof dog car boot liner.

Can't work how he did it as it's still attached on all four sides. Laughing

Chuckle is one of the funniest dogs I've ever met.
I purposely let myself into her kennel for the whirlwind of fun that ensues - this girl is a nuzzler, leaner, licker and tail-wagger of impressive intensity.

She's possibly an Anatolian shepherd cross akita, is only young, and can't sit still when the humans are around (when they're not, she likes a snooze).

Can't see her being in the rescue long - she has huge personality - but whoever adopts her will need to have their walking shoes on. Laughing

He's a lovely shy boy, Kathy.
I suspect he's the type of dog who will lie by his owner and never put a foot out of place. Love Struck

I agree. Can't work out how some (most) of them end up in a pound, followed by the rescue.

Meet Lancer.
He's another boy who I get on really well with - a gentle treat taker, walks nice, has good manners, and seems quite mature in his ways.

He's about three or four and is currently in a mood with me as I was the first person he saw after having his bits off today at the vets. Surprised

Travels well in the car and has quite a majestic look about him.

My newest mate - the handsome Banjo - the wire-haired GSD.

What a good-looking boy.

Looks like Theo's limp is clearing up or, at least, getting much better.

Couldn't really tell today, when I took him out to get a new photo of him.

Handsome chap who is so quiet and friendly.

Laughing

How do ya think they would be with a hyper boysterous staffy half the size but just as strong ?
I'm trying to convince oh !!!

They're very very easy going in each others' company, and never get involved with the vocalising in the kennels when it starts every now and again.

They don't seem to have any beef with other dogs from what I've seen but obviously have no idea how the dynamics would be in a new house with a resident dog.

Here's what their blurb says mate. Smile Cats are a no-no - that much I do know.

Storm is a 6 year old female white Akita. Storm came into our care via the dog pound after her owners had handed her in. Storm is a pretty girl and very friendly to boot. When you go to her kennel to take her for a walk she is always eager to see you, her tail wagging, eager to get out to do some exploring, she can pull on her lead at first and is excitable but calms down after this initial excitement and enjoys her walks. Storm is a very friendly girl, she likes to give you a hand lick and is happy to be touched all over completely relaxed. She does not show much interest in toys but Strom does enjoy a treat, she will sit beautifully for one and wait till she is given it, she is very gentle and there is no snatching. Storm has previously lived with two other Akita's a male and a female who she got on well with, she has ignored other dogs while in the kennels but has not met any other dogs directly, she cannot live with cats. She lived with children in her previous home with no issues. Storm is a affectionate girl, she would dearly love a home to call her own with her companion Sox.

Sox is a female 6 year old Akita. Sox came into our care via the pound after her owner had handed her into the place. When you go to Sox's kennel she always has a waggy tail for you and what seems like a big smile on her face, she is a friendly girl and just wants to interact with you. Sox is a pretty girl, stocky with lovely gentle eyes, a beautiful double curl to her tail and a happy disposition, she is happy to be touched all over and enjoys a fuss. Sox can pull at first on her walks but is then happy to trot along and is quite manageable, she is a inquisitive girl who likes sniffing and exploring. She has not shown much interest in toys and is not possessive of her food bowl. Sox likes treats and takes one very gentle, she sits for a treat. She is a confident girl and happy to be left, she has previously lived with two other Akitas a male and female and got on with them well, she has ignored the other dogs in the kennels but not interacted with them directly yet. She has previously lived with children with no issues.

These two are bonded and we are looking for a home for them together.

Sox is busy blowing her outer coat ready for a new one for winter - mostly the undercoat remaining.
Should look magnificent in a couple of weeks time - looks slightly raggy at the moment.
As you can see from the photo, she is quite well-built.
