Large lump with a black scab on my dogs hind quarter

Hi, My Staffy, Lily, has developed a lump on her hind quarter by her tail. It started as a small pea sized lump but very quickly developed into quite a large lump which now has a large black scab like covering. I have an appointment with the Vet on Monday. The reason I didn't make an earlier appointment was she was heavily in season. The lump developed into a raised nasty looking scab in under a week. Please help as this has got me worried and I may have to insist on an earlier appointment with the Vet. Jimbobd

It could be an allergic reaction to a bite. Has it bled at all? Exactly how long has it been there?

Moo had a similar thing on her ear. It turned out to be a benine tumour. I was so worried but apparently quite commen in young dogs.

I personally would have it checked sooner rather that later but I wouldn't overly worry Xx

hia from me and sasha,sorry cant help really,sure if your worried mention to the vet that she's in season and they would give you a appointment at the end of surgery when no other dogs will be coming in,hope she's ok.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Ours had something that sounds similar. Our vet told us it was quite common in young dogs and would fall of on it's own.

Kaos also had a small lump which grew in a week a bit smaller than tennis ball size! That had a scab covering as well and was in his arm pit. It also like janey said turned out to be a benine tumor. They usually disapear by themselves but kaos had to have his removed as it was so big.

What did the vet tell you? It should be checked because it might be an unwanted tumor or just an pustule. Is the scab itchy?
