Biting/nibbling Empty Biting/nibbling

Well as you all probably know, I've had Bailey for 5 weeks today already and I'm extremely happy with him, he's learned nearly everything I've taught him ... apart from not to bite!! He got me a cracker tonight aswell! Had some family up so he was obviously excited with the added attention he was getting lol!! I was busy watching TV and next minute felt him chomp down on my thumb, then my pinky with some nice cuts to go with it lol, this is the only time he has broke the skin but I want this behaviour out him asap, is it just a case of persevering or is there anything else I can do? When he bites or nibbles he gets a firm 'NO!' and ignored/shut out of the room till he has calmed down a bit then given a bit of quiet praise! Any advice would be good thanks Big Grin!!

I would keep going with the firm NO" and ignoring. He will get the message ( I thought my girl would NEVER learn when she was young, but with perserverance and consistency they do get the message )

Keep up the good work.....I know it can be frustrating at times, but consistency does pay off

You are doing the right thing. We also have used a plastic bottle with rocks to startle her when she bites and well as slapping our hand on the floor or furniture. This usually ends the behaviour now but if not we still get up and ignore her completly

Lola is the same, learnt most things but she still wants to bite/nibble on fingers when she's excited!
I might try the bottle with rocks thought thank you Smile xx

I'm having the same bother with Monty, to a point I get really angry with him. I know I shouldn't. Sometimes even if we just want to smooth him he will just want to bite and nibble !

I remember when we got Billy we couldn't walk two steps before he pounced it was a nightmare, but it will end eventually, just ignore him and say no really loud

Perseverance is the key. It will stop as long as you continue what you're doing, but remember he'll be starting to teeth around now so his gums will be a bit sore.

He'll need things to chew on to ease the discomfort - try giving him some frozen carrot or frozen banana.

Thanks all, at least I know it will get better in time lol Laughing Think I'll try the bottle and stone's thing swell, and he's been kind of rubbing his teeth off the laminate flooring so I've been giving him ice cubes and also a frozen carrot and it seems to help! He goes mad for ice cubes Laughing!!

Marley used to do the same so I turned dog. I did the dog word for "hey that hurts" a high pitched YIP lol
Beleive me you sound stupid doing it and my neighbours must have thought i needed sectioning, but it worked well for marley. I did it even if it didnt hurt to teach him teath on human skin no matter what is a no no. it turned bites and nibbles to licks after a few yips and a few odd looks from him lol. He still does it sometimes when in hyper excited mode but he seems to forget everything when he's like that...
