STAFFY AGRESSIVE AGAINST OTHER STAFFORDS
IS IT POSSIBLE TO TEACH MY DOG TO GET ALONG WITH OTHER STAFFORDS
HE 'S AGRESSIVE AGAINST AMERICAN STAFFORDS
I'VE TRIED IT WITH A MUZZLE, BUT NO RESULT;
IT'S POSSIBLE HE HAS A TRAUMA BECAUSE HE WAS BITTEN WHEN HE WAS 6 MONTHS BY AN AMERICAN STAFFORD.
REMCO HAS'NT GOT PROBLEMS WITH OTHER BREEDS.
ARE THERE OTHER SOLUTIONS?
THANKS MARIO

Re: STAFFY AGRESSIVE AGAINST OTHER STAFFORDS
Hi & welcome to the forum.
When you say American Staffy, do you mean a pit bull?
Generally speaking a dog won't react differently to different breeds, although occasionally they'll take a dislike to dogs of a particular size or colour. It could be that the dogs he has reacted to were staring him in the eye - most dogs don't like that & may react aggressively as direct eye contact is a challenge to a dog.
You could try putting him into a sit position when you come near a dog he doesn't like & get him to watch your face. When he does as he's told, give him a high value treat. Hopefully he'll eventually realise that seeing a dog he doesn't like & ignoring it will earn him a treat.
However, you should be aware that some staffordshire bull terriers are naturally dog aggressive, and you may not be able to train him out of this behaviour. In the meantime I would sugest that you keep him on a lead around other dogs to avoid confrontations.

Re: STAFFY AGRESSIVE AGAINST OTHER STAFFORDS
Hi and welcome from us and Suki
There are a number of things that you can try. Please remember that they are an aggressive breed by nature and if they have been attacked previously this will cause additional issues. When you muzzle them they may feel defenseless and will in fact be so in the event there is a problem. Also not all dogs will get along so if you know your dog has an issue with a particular dog than simply keep them seperated.
I would suggest that you find a handler that has a dog that is properly socialized and gets along with other dogs without any issues. Start by giving them a walk together with the handlers in the middle and the dogs on the outside. After that gradually move to the dogs being in the middle and keep a close eye on their body language. If their is a sign of aggresion give a firm no and seperate them.

Re: STAFFY AGRESSIVE AGAINST OTHER STAFFORDS
Mario, sometimes you can't train it out, so I would just be aware of that and not get too frustrated. I had one that hated black dogs and I always felt like he was a little racist, but no matter how much we worked on it, it wasn't getting better. It got to the point where I just avoided putting him with any dark colord dogs (sounds terrible). It really was for the best though. I hope Remco can get over it. It just takes a lot of work and patience on your part. Even if he does get over it, you should always be on the alert, watching his body language to make sure he isn't going to snap and get into it. Good luck!

Re: STAFFY AGRESSIVE AGAINST OTHER STAFFORDS
I think its very hard to train a dog out of that its usually the first thing in its head a split second decision thats acted on. On leads thats fine off lead a whole different ball game you have to be sure and know your dog well.
Good luck
