Sleepy Sabre

Post by Guest Fri Sep 30 2011, 10:36

as i said here are some pics of sabre.
we knew from birth that we wanted him. he was the only one of 11 pups to have his mothers colouring. the others were darker like the father.
his mother was seriously ill though and so she had to go to hospital (she did recover) so when the pups were 5 weeks they all went to their new homes.
sabre couldnt feed properly and so i bottle fed him every 4 hours even during the night and during the day would mush up bits of meat and let him lick from my fingers untill when he was 10 weeks he fed on his own from the bowl (clever boy Big Grin )
when he was around 6-8 months we had him done on the advise of the police who did the training. he was one of the rare cases that never grew up after and lived as a puppy. i think he found the fountain of youth rolling on the floor
when he was 7 years old he was diagnosed with a tumour in his eye and lids and there was nothing could be done.
i took him for his last walk when the time came and to this day still miss him and the feeling from that walk will never go away its not nice at all. i helped bring him into this world and was there to see him leave. he knew he was loved and i cuddled him till the last he was my baby.

to go from sabre and the other GSDs we have had to lemmy is quite a change. from big to small but the same size character if not more from lemmy. i love all the dogs we have had but when you have one that has not had a good start they catch your heart more i think.
sabre had a rough start and so did lemmy so i supose they are both that little bit more special to me.

i beleive that things were meant to be and i was meant to be sabre and lemmy's mummy.

i dont think there is any animal lover that hasnt been through it themselves at some point so we know how each other feel. its good to remember and think about them. sabre was a silly lollopy lanky dog that love life.

he used to love the bath. say BATH and he would run upstairs and jump in.
he loved swimming and still wouldnt give in even when his hips did.
he loved the snow and rain. he would walk outside with his face in the air letting the rain fall on it.
he loved long grass he looked like a rabbit jumping and bounding in it.
he loved sunday dinner and stew and dumplins
he couldnt have lots of treats and change of dinner though cos he had a dicky tummy and it was easily upset.

Sad What a beautiful boy.
I'm not a great lover of GSD after my brother and I were attacked by one when we were kids. If my first experience with them was something more like Sabre I might not have the silly apprehension that I have taken with me till now when I see one.
Sabre sounds as if he was one in a million and such an angel boy.
RIP and run free Sabre broken heart
