Hi...
my name is Al & i have a 3 year old red SBT "Major".
had a problem the weekend while he was at the kennels.the guy said he had been fine all day, they just put the lead on him to take him outside when he seemed to fall over, then stood up & was arching his back(like he was going to the toilet)he then seemed like he was drunk, very wobbly on his feet.the guy rushed him to local vet who hadnt seen anything like it & couldnt work out the problem?
the vet gave him a sedative & kept under obs for the night,he was ok after hour or so.when the kennel guy picked him up next morning it was like nothing had happend!he's been fine ever since i got him home.
any idea guys????
thanks,
Allan(& Major)

hi Kathy,
thanks for that link to the CECS site, judging by the symptoms decribed on there & the ones told to me by the kennels guys its VERY similar.it seems a very good site.i'm going to pop & see the vet later & see what they suggest i do.
Major seems to have no long term affect after the initial episode & is back to his usual self,so hopefully its not affected him to much.
my mums jack russell terrier has had fits for several years now & is at least 12 years old & seems happy enough.
thanks for all the hello's & the warm welcome.
Al...

Hi & welcome.

I doubt that it's CECS as it's mainly known in Border Terriers, although it could be a similar epilieptic type episode.

I wouldn't worry too much unless it happens again, in which case I'd take a copy of the Border Terrier article to the vets with you so they can see for tehmselves.

Hi Al & Major, how awful for you, Major (& the poor kennel guy).
Definitely hard to suggest what this episode might have been but I'm glad he hasn't had any more of them. Maybe it was some kind of nerve/muscle reaction, weakness when he stood up.....? Maybe he was a little dehydrated....Hope you vet can shed some light on what it was or at least what things to be aware of.
We'd love to see some pics of your boy when you have time.
Welcome to the forum from me and my girls Kita & Izzy wave
