Is your dog on a raw food diet?
Re: Is your dog on a raw food diet?
Apart from when we went camping (no fridge!) yes, he's on raw. Does very well on it, too!

No....happy with the dry kimble he is on at the moment. He looks great on it. It might be something I look into but at the moment some days I don't stop working till 10pm and I haven't got the time to be messing about feeding him

As long as it isn't pork!
I use either ox heart or lambs hearts (more expensive). If I can get them I use chicken hearts as a treat, but you need a lot of them!

??
No reason, I was just hinting that your ex might've been a pig.................
Some people don't like to feed pork to dogs, doesn't bother me cause it's an old wive's tale that it'll give them worms.
Another old wive's tale is that if you feed raw meat to a dog it'll get maggots in the brain, or will develop a taste for blood & become a killer.

Re: Is your dog on a raw food diet?
No. He would rather starve.
We had a head-to-head a while ago, where he got raw every meal for two days. He ate nothing.
On Orijen now, which is excellent for him.

Never considered it as once over though it would make her a bloodthirsty devil dog, then came round a bit into sensible zone and realised it's not so, then saw some of Ella's pics of the boys eating pigs heads and (no offence Ella )

Not every dog will eat raw, and not every human wants to feed it. I think feeding dogs is a very personal thing & as long as you feed the best you can afford then that's good!

Re: Is your dog on a raw food diet?
I don't feed raw but apart from having a very small freezer, I'm a bit weird about raw meat lol. When I was pregnant the smell of raw meat made me sick and I still can't stand it, I've never been able to eat chicken legs or wings. See, weird

Re: Is your dog on a raw food diet?
I feed raw and the longer I do the less commercially-produced dog food makes sense to me.
I bag up the raw food I buy from a local wholesale butcher into "meal size" portions and R eats it for the most part frozen. Sometimes I will leave it overnight to thaw out.
I can understand it's not for everyone.
I like the fact that I can tell how he does on different types of food - i.e. chicken makes him a bit itchy if fed too much. Too much pork makes him gassy.
He wasn't into it immediately. It was a question of making it a game - some slightly gross tug-of-war scenarios with frozen chicken wings got him into the swing of things. He doesn't like raw liver so I microwave that or turn it into treats by baking it.
I try to vary the diet as much as possible. Butchers also give me spare bones and he gets left overs from my food. I like the fact there is less waste and he is eating things that would otherwise be chucked out.
I supplement meat bones and offal with raw eggs and a bit of coconut oil. And, as I said, scraps.
He is now EXTREMELY enthusiastic about his food. As it takes a bit longer to eat, he can't wolf it all down in one go. I think it makes it an adventure for him. I also have random notions that I want him to be able to survive in the wild if it ever came to it... back to nature kind of thoughts that only naive people (me) who live in the middle of the city ever entertain seriously
