distempia
I have been told by a friend today that a few dogs on a estate near to us have died of distempia.I told her i wasnt worried has all my dogs have had there vaccines and are up to date with boosters but she told me that my dogs can still get it even though they have had vaccines.and just that the risk isnt as high for them is this true as i am very worried now so is she about her dogs

Young puppies and dogs that have not been vaccinated or which have a poor immune response are most susceptible. Older dogs should be fine unless they are really old.

yeaa, the vaccine is prevention, and pretty unlikely to effect dogs vaccinated and of good health.

If they are vacinated then they can still get distemper but it should only be very mild

My first dog (border collie bitch) got distempa when she was only a few months old. Because she'd been vaccinated she only got it mildly (although it wasn't nice) and made a full recovery.
P.S. give your vet a ring and ask if the 'rumour' is true. Sometimes these rumours start and have no real basis, but your vet will be in touch with what's going on in the area, and will give you recommendations as to what to do about it.
