Re: HATE! the jobcentre
I hope that's a week.
I'm pretty sure it is.
Mind you, under £40 to live on for a week is pretty crap.

I know the economy Is tough and the jobs are limited, But you destiny Is In your own hands, If your not happy with the money you getting, Try everything In your power to get off job seekers allowance, Unless oviously you have to be claiming benefits, Because you are ill you have a long or short term disability, Not meaning to sound harsh or anything, Just saying the truth like It should be told, I use to be on job seekers, But with hard work looking and also not been picky, I managed to find employment, Im no better than any of you people, DONT GIVE UP! , Keep trying eventually you will find a job!

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
And as for the job centre giving you peanuts to live on, Thats the whole point the goverment gives so little, Because they dont want anybody claiming, Because less people paying tax, Less money for them, And they give something, So they can still be seen to help the poor and In need , But we all know the truth, Considering were ment to be a rich country, There Is alot of poverty In this country, Seen a programme on tv not long ago, Was called poor kids on bbc 3 think It was, And the way the goverment lets people get to that state beats me, I know some people are In massive trouble money Is there own fault related to addictions drink /drugs , But some people cant work and the goverment gives them peanuts to live on , When Its not there fault , And they are ment to be on benefits long term, But hey could be worse , Just look at somalia!

Yes but america you have to pay for your own health care etc etc , And things out there are alot more expensive than the uk , I have been there about 6 or 7 times , And everything In the states Is so expensive , And the prices the hospitals charge out there Is Insane , I know theres no price when It comes to your health , But what about the poor and elderly , To pay them Insane prices ?! , I know NOT your fault Its the goverment for letting the hospitals and doctors charge such Insane prices for health care , And I know vets out there are one of the most expensive In the world! , I have a friend In the states hes told me al this , And some of It like things been so expensive I have seen for myself on holiday, When I have spent a long holidays out there , They goverment gives you social security benefits , Think thats what you guys call It out there ?! , But If anything happens to you or your family health wise , The money you get off goverment all be gone on health bills ! , Its one thing In uk thats brilliant FREE health care for all rich or poor , Should be the same In america , Espeacally how much the hard working americans pay of tax, And they see nothing back , If I am wrong with my Information let me know , I dont mind been corrected! , And the rant Its against obama goverment not u lol .

O yes another point , You get more benefit money In the uk If you have kids! , You get house etc etc , Oviously If your very low paid or unemployed , Dont think USA goverment give low paid americans or unemployed FREE houses! , With housing benefit counsil tax benefit , Overall I think Uk goverment looks after the poor elderly and unemployed ALOT better than America!

I'm not certain that 30 million is accurate but yes there are alot. Poverty in the US is considered as a family of two making less than $14,710 per year. There are program such as unemployment, welfare, food stamps, rent controlled housing and many more to help off set this.
The high cost of health care is a result of doctors and hospitals having to pay malpractice insurance in the event of a lawsuit, which there are alot of. The hospitals don't turn away sick or injuried people because they can't pay but the do pass the cost along to those of us who can. There are also a number of free clinics you can go to.

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
I personaly think this government and the country as a whole is a complete joke !!!!!!!!!!
More should be spent on industry to create more jobs for people its a disgrace how we are buying from other countries and we can produce in our own.
I know how bad the situation is but I agree that you do hold your own destiny and if I was in your shoes right now id be looking to trying for courses that will get you into work .
I know the money you have is poor but if the government gave you more than enough to live on would you then want a job.
Start at the bottom if you have to and work your way up have faith in yourself you can acheive anything if you try hard enough

30 million Is true! jstaff, I will post the link, I follow politics! , And I have my best friend that lives out In the states, And first thing If your ill or have a accident, And ambulance ask you, Is have you got health Insurance, If you havent, They put you In a goverment hospital where the standards are grime, The thing Is, America Is considered a rich country, But they treat the poor and elderly like dirt, Which Isnt right, Isnt your fault, But Its something USA goverment needs to address, I think one good thing Obama did once he came to powe, He reformed the health care system, But NOT enough, But cant see more help for poor and elderly, Seeing as were all still In the recession and goverments are cutting back, Not against you, Its the way America Is run!

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
I'm not an expert as I have only recently got into the world without my parents, haha, I don't visit the doctors that often and haven't really had much wrong with me, but as far as I know health care is free. you pay to go to the doctors but get most of it back. some doctors you don't pay at all.
lol... I went to the emergancy department with my boyfriend when he was thrown out of a biscuit behind the boat and hit his head really hard, had stuff comingout of his nose for days. that doctors did scans and things on him and said he was alright and left him to get his normal cloths back on... we didn't know whether we were allowed to leave or whether we had to pay cos we'd never been to the hospital before haha... we walked out though so I guess its free!

I don't know if I would believe anything on Wikipedia. It's a good site but shouldn't be taken as fact IMHO. The government hospitals aren't all that bad and I use them myself. We do indeed have poverty issues but we are also in massive debt and there is only so much money to go around. I would agree with the article that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer though.

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
ive tried really hard to stay out of this one cos i have really strong views on it but i must voice them, its been said by Gem i think though - if you got paid enough to be comfortable on where is the incentive to go out and get a job. we have this debate at work quite often.im not opposed to those that need financial help receiving it but as a country there are too many people that have become to see benefits as their "wage" - not having a rant at you personally as dont know your personal circumstances. Their are jobs advertised round here yet people say there are no jobs about - it may be the job they want/income they need to replace the benefit they receive is not right but you must start somewhere.
I visited Kenya last year and they were amazed that we pay people for not working, even those with disabilities in that country get nothing.you see them all lining up outside factories etc at 6am in the morning trying to get a days work so their families can eat that day. It was an eye opener
Im not saying we should be that harsh but if you got paid a decent amount where is the incentive to get out of bed in a morning and look for work. Job seekers is to enable you to transport yourself to and from interviews, it is not for you to live on.
Some working people i know have less than that as disposable income every week because they have to pay for everything with working such as dental costs, rent, vet bills, council tax etc etc
i have never claimed any benefits and have worked my way up from the bottom rung, being on a pitiful salary and even having 2 jobs when i bought a house to pay the mortgage - i had about £10 to live on per week after paying for everything and that was at 21 when mates were going on holiday to Ibiza having a good time and i had to say no.
sorry rant over but i needed to offload

Very well said. I have friends with a PHD who are currently working as waitresses. Government assistance should go to those that can't help themselves not to people that believe they are too good for a certain line of work.

Differnent points of view are what makes this forum and the world run IMHO. If everyone agreed all of the time it would be boring. I have a few unpopular opinions but stand by them. And again I very much agree with you.

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
Nicola I do agree with you what your saying, And dont think you could of put that more politely , And theres people keep having kids so that get a free house and loads of benefits, Think we should bring 3 baby rule In england, Like they have In china but In china Is 1 baby rule, Espeacally these asylum seekers brining there 8 kids here, And getting put In a lavish house everything paid for, And like 30 grand a year worth of benefits, That Isnt right! , I know there country Is a mess like pakistan somalia etc , But we shouldnt be that generous, If we lived In there country, We wouldnt get nothing, And we would be classed as second class citzens , And agree If goverment gave to much job seekers allowance no body would bother working , Give you so little, To keep you afloat short term, Untill you get a job , I know you get more If your signed off on the sick, Because thats classed as you need more money to live, Because you will be on benefits for long time, Or In some cases life , Think benefits system needs reforming , Which Is what torries are trying do , But this human rights s**t stops the goverment doing , And jstaff ment no offence at all , And wiki pedia are a very reliable source because there Information off straight from the goverment , And If more than 1 source Is saying 30 million or more than 30 million americans live In poverty, Makes It a credible source of Information , If Just read It once and never again , I wouldnt believe It , But when Its all over the Internet , Its got to be true.

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
And agree Nicola with you as well , There as jobs , Some people are either to picky, Or dont want to work , But then again theres another way of looking at people unemployed, Some loose there confidence and sort of give up on looking for work, Which becomes a fustration to get there confidence back to think straight to keep looking for work to get back Into employment , And theres certain people who have criminal records for there past , And have changed but society wont give them a chance , Supose I see the employments point of view, A person with criminal record or without to employ , Its a no brainer , Plus If they employ person with criminal record whos well known In local community for hes past crimes , Could give company business back name, The way some people look at It like employing a thug , But agree goverment should spend more money doing programmes to get people gain there confidence, To get back Into employment , There so many ways of looking at people who are or have been unemployed long term , But agree people who dont suffer from confidence and Just dont want to work , Should be made to work, Else there benefits cut .

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
May I suggest you do some voluntary work a couple of afternoons a week at a charity shop or perhaps you could walk rescue dogs? Employees will be very impressed you're not just sitting on your laurels.sorry to post agin but i have also been allpyin for jobs that are when my partner is home and i havent heard a fing ive applied for allsorts!!!not even an interview!!!
I understand how frustrating it is. After I dropped out of uni I spent ages on JS. I did voluntary work, work experience, trial courses etc. I didnt' have enough experience to apply for graduate jobs but all the other jobs I applied for I was told I was overqualified!
I went to my cousin's company and did an apprenticeship scheme for 6 months, getting experience in an office and getting an nvq lv2 in business admin (even though I already had an nvq lv3 and foundation degree!)
It was depressing because everyone else there was 17/18 and treated it like collage whereas I'm in my twenties and there to work.
Finished that in may and I was on jobseekers again for six weeks before I got my current job.
Can't say it's what I planned to be doing and it can be very stressful and the moneys not very good but BY GOD I think I would slit my own throat if I had to walk back into the jobcentre with those awful, condescending, patronising staff doling out their pittances to the desperate.

Re: HATE! the jobcentre
When i had my 2 kids i didnt work as we again couldnt make enough to pay child care as my oh was training to be a driving instructor
Luckly he qualified and when the kids started school i got a pt job delivering leaflets
At the time we struggled as we also had 3 dogs but with effort we now own our own house and we both work full time
I think it did us all good as the kids know if you want something you have to work for it
there are the jobs out there but it is hard when the kids are small especially when one gets ill and you hve to leave work to look after them
My kids are now 15 and 14 and i still dont earn a great amount but i enjoy what i do good luck in findingthat job

Has the whole thing changed then ? I was claiming for 4 months from July 2010, I was getting £120 (maybe 140 ?) a fortnight. £38.18 a fortnight I find hard to believe ?! That's one massive joke.
