HOLLY HAS BECOME SO AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS BUDDY
I have two beautiful dark brindle & white Staffordshire Bull Terriers 9 year old Buddy and Holly who recently turned 5.Both dogs have gotten on well however over the past few weeks Holly has become very aggresive towards Buddy she will be laying on our bed and suddenly she will sit up and stare at him and then she attacks him he does not fight back and as soon as Holly stops he will go and sit behind the couch where she will leave him alone, my husband and I dont know why.We treat them the same as always both dogs sleep in our bed, they are loved the same ,get all the attention as always nothing has changed therefore we are asking all Staffordshire Bull Terrier owners if anyone has exsperienced anything like this?

To be honest, I'd get em both checked by the vet. Not that there's anything wrong, but just to make sure. Sometimes a dog can tell if another's ill before humans can.
If there's nothing wrong, I'd wait and see. Don't leave them unsupervised, though, just in case he does decide to have ago back.

aggressiveness can have many causes, determining what kind of aggression an animal is manifesting is prerequisite to successful treatment of the behavior. a frequent problem is the one of dominance. dogs, which are social animals. have a hierarchal system of dominance within their pack. a dominant or submissive position relative to fellow canines also occur in relationship to people. only in unusual circumstances would a submissive dog threaten a dominant dog. and almost never physically assault its superior. the dominant dog, however, frequently threatens the submissive dog, to maintain its position.

Re: HOLLY HAS BECOME SO AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS BUDDY
MY HUSBAND SURPRISED ME WITH HOLLY ON THE EVEING OF MY BIRTHDAY.THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOOK HER TO THE VET TO BE INOCULATED AND DEWORMED DURING THE CONSULTATION OUR VET GAVE HER A THOROUGH EXAMINATION UPON DOING SO HE FELT A SMALL BULDGE ON HER TUMMY WHICH HE DIAGNOSED AS A HERNIA AFTER TAKING EXRAYS HE CONFIRMED THAT THE BULDGE WAS INDEED A HERNIA.HE GAVE US TWO OPTIONS 1.EUTHANASIA 2.REMOVE THE HERNIA WITH KNOW GUARANTEE THAT SHE WOULD SURVIVE SURGERY DUE TO HER BEING SO YOUNG (8WEEKS OLD)AND HE EXSPLAINED THAT THIS SURGERY WOULD BE VERY EXSPENSIVE.WE WENT FOR OPTION TWO WHICH HAS LEFT HER WITH A VERY BIG SCAR OUR VET EXSPLAINED THAT SHE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE A LITTER OF PUPPIES BECAUSE OF THE SURGERY AND BIG SCAR SHE WAS LEFT WITH.WE WANTED HOLLY TO BE SPAYED WHEN SHE WAS TWO YEARS OLD AND AFTER A THOROUGH EXAMINATION AND MORE EXSRAYS OUR VET GAVE US THE OPTION TO LET HER HAVE ONE LITTER OF PUPPIES AND THEN SPAY HER HOWEVER SHE HAS NEVER CONCIEVED SO I AM WONDERING IF SHE IS FRUSTRATED WITH BUDDY?

Re: HOLLY HAS BECOME SO AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS BUDDY
could be but im very suprised a vet would advise her to have a litter then get her spayed as they try to get as many bitches spayed as possible to stop the over breeding'
and there usally more than happy to do this at the owners wish.

I'm surprised, too. Vets normally are dead against letting a bitch have a litter before spaying - in fact they usually advise to spay before the first season. Have you deliberately tried to mate your two?
I doubt that the scar would have had anything to do with her not conceiving, after all bitches who have cesareans can go on to have litters afterwards, and operations on the stomach for things such as bloat leave a large scar but don't aftect reproduction.
Did the vet say exactly what he had to do to repair the hernia?

HOLLY WAS TWO YEARS OLD WHEN WE THOUGHT SHE HAD CONCIEVED WE TOOK HER TO OUR VET FOR A CHECK UP AND CONFIRMATION THAT SHE WAS PREGNANT.OUR VET DID THE NECESSARY TESTS AND LATER CONFIRMED SHE WAS NOT PREGNANT EVEN THOUGH SHE LOOKED PREGNANT AND ALL THE SIGHNS WERE THERE.THIS WAS WHEN WE GOT THE GO AHEAD TO ALLOW HER TO HAVE ONE LITTER BEFORE SPAYING HER AND SHE STILL GOES ON HEAT BUT NEVER CONCIEVES.
I AGREE THAT VETS SHOULD RATHER INSIST ON SPAYING/NEUTERING INSTEAD OF ENCOURAGING DOG OWNERS TO BREED.

I think that they should provide a balanced question/answer leaflet on what's best! I don't think it should be an automatic thing to spay/castrate.
I'm just wondering why you want to breed from her? Is it just because it was sugested by the vet, or do you think you'd be able to improve the breed & have good homes for the pups born? I'm not criticizing, just interested about you reasons. If she's mating & looking as though she's pregnant, but never is, then she's probably goinf through phantom pregnancies & never will get pregnant. If that's the case, I'd get her spayed because there will be an increased risk of milk fever & pyometra.
I just wonder if, during the hernia surgery, some damage was done to the reproductive tract.
