Avrora's New Mom
Hi,
I became a new Staffy mom June 2011. My girl was almost all white as a pup-in-the-hand, but has developed spots and bands of red, tan, and black. She is as profiles say, a sweetie most of the time, but is demonstrating her willfulness, too. She is being more assertive with her mouthiness/nippiness. She's becoming more demanding. I am trying to maintain my composure. Any advice will be welcomed. BTW, she is in puppy kindergarden and I am clicker training.

Re: Avrora's New Mom
hi,,, think they all different lol so good luck, i got 3 and only 1 was a nipper, when he used to nip i would say no gentle then try and ignore him for a min or 2, so he knew i was not happy, he soon grew out of it, you got to correct the puppy like the mam would, a unexpected noise will distract her and she will connect the noise with nipping, i said in a earlier forum, my dog bess is aggressive with other dogs when i take her out, so i take a packet of crisps with me, and when i see another dog i make a noise with the crisp packet and i totally got her focus and the other dog just passes without a hitch, hope all goes well

Re: Avrora's New Mom
Hi there and Welcome from Me and Roxy.
How old is your pup? I'm assuming she is still very young ??????
My Roxy was very much a little nipper ( and still is at 7 months to a much lesser extent ) It does take a lot of patience and persistence, but it DOES improve. Trust me, I thought I was never gonna win the battle.
They are all little individuals and what works for one does'nt always work for others.
Take notice of all advice given, and find what works for you, your dog and your situation. Consistency is what your dog needs....so when you find what works , stick to it.
Would love to see some pics of your girl

Re: Avrora's New Mom
Hi & welcome!
There have been a few threads about puppy nipping, if you have time take a quick look through the training & behaviour forum ( https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/f3-staffordshire-bull-terrier-training-and-behaviour ) and I'm sure you'll find something there to help you!
I prefer the "No!" and turning away, with no interraction until they're calm again.

Re: Avrora's New Mom
Caryll, thanks for the nudge to check the forum for info on nipping.
Loopy, thank you for reemphasizing the role of consistency.
Everyone, thank you for your welcome and encouragement.
I'll have to learn how to upload pictures.
