Kelly was with Maybel and Maybel's new friend Ernie, and Skeet. Then after supper Gus came out with me to see the sheep, which he isn't so sure about

It's not a bad thing that they never get icing,it should only be giving on treats rarely. Those treats are the first time they had icing on them in about half a year ! We used no-sugar cornstarch icing recipe that my mum found on a dog treats website, but we got more creative and caked it on some places and used an icing pen to layer the different colours. The sprinkles are coloured Sesame seeds and no-sugar organic coloured coconut (Gus goes nuts for coconut !) Here's the recipe on the paper my mum has
Ingredients:
*2 Tbsp Cornstarch - or other substitution
*cold water
*food coloring
Instructions:
*Combine cornstarch and water in a bowl with a whisk or fork.
*Add the desired amount of food coloring.
And here are some tips and substitutions for some ingredients
Instead of 2 TBSP of Cornstarch you can use one of these:
*4 TBSP all purpose white flour
*2 TBSP rice or potato flour - great option for dogs with gluten or grain allergies.
*2 TBSP plus 2 tsp tapioca, the quick cooking or instant variety. This is also a gluten free option.
*1 TBSP plus 1 tsp arrowroot
And some tips for it:
*Two tablespoons of cornstarch are equivalent to a 1/8 cup of cornstarch. Use this for ease in preparation and so you only have to measure once.
*Cornstarch has a tendency to become lumpy when mixed with warm or hot water. So, only use cold water for this recipe. The cornstarch will begin to thicken if it sits too long. Just be prepared with a small fork nearby to mix it up. You may need to add more water if it gets too stiff. Do so very gradually, about 1 tsp. at a time.
*If you are going to be making several different colors, you can easily double or even triple this recipe. Mix the dry ingredients with the water and then separate into small dishes or bowls and color each one separately.
*The amount of water you add will vary. You want the consistency to be somewhat runny.
*The amount of food coloring you use will be a personal choice and depend on the end color you are wanting to achieve.
Our icing got a little lumpy, which is why it looks caked on,but they still enjoyed the treats
