woman at supermarket checkout
Hi
ME and my daughter was at the supermarket yesterday.when we got to the checkout and placed all the doggy Treats on the convayer she asked us what type of dog we had we told her we had 3 and that the youngest was a staffy. And she came out with i wouldnt have one of those they are nasty them dogs at this point me and my felt upset by her remark and we asked her if she had ever owned a staff and she said no.so how can she say that when she has never had one.Staffys do get a bad reputation by no fault of there own and this makes my blood boil Any dog can turn if it wanted to.so why do staffs get the bad name

You really just have to feel sorry for her - imagine having such a poor life that you have to attack people's pets while you're working.. (And even sadder - no staffie in her life )
Re: woman at supermarket checkout
I wonder if it's certain areas that seem to look down on staffies, where I live most people seem to love staffies, don't get me wrong there is always the odd narrow-minded pratt but generally most people I speak to either have a staffy or know someone with a staffie and therefore love them!

yes my parents are always saying "shame he's going to turn out to be such an ugly dog"
so I snapped at my mum and said, if I had a baby and you thought it was ugly, would you tell me?... this is my baby and I am offended!!!!

How rude was she ! Her life must so sad if she has to say something like that to a customer .
Our area seem to accept staffies, well in our street alone there is 3 and we all live next door to each other and i talk to one neighbour but not the other as there is history over bruno between us and i won't have a bad word said against him. Then I know of about 10 other staffies in the village

next time you go in invite the very stupid and narrow minded women to come and meet your staffy and i bet within 10 mins of being with one she changes her mind she has probably never even stroked one let alone played with one

Re: woman at supermarket checkout
You should have asked to speak to her manager as thats just not acceptable to comeout with something like that while your at work talking to customers with their children.
Its bad enough comming out with something like that but to do it to a customer and her daughter is truley disgusting.
Same here, where we live we are lucky that 99% of people have a staffy or know somebody with a staffy and love them. As you say there is the odd idiot now and then that belive all the newspaper hype but they are very few and far between.

Re: woman at supermarket checkout
the staffies reputation is another of those "urban myths"
people hear something and it becomes solid fact and gets blown up out of all proportion,
when we had Tina (staffie) and Bonnie (westie) and took them out on walks together, mothers would drag their children out of Tinas way, but quite happily let them approach Bonnie,
Tina, you could trust with a new born baby, she was never known to show any aggression to anyone at all and was a real "people" dog,
Bonnie, on the other hand, was of the "bite first and ask questions later" school, so you had to be constantly warning people not to let their kids try and fuss her,
how you can educate people to accept the fact that staffies are no more dangerous than any other kind of dog is a big problem that will take a lot of work and a very long time to overcome, (if ever)
anyone who has owned a Staffie knows the truth but convincing others is a totally different matter

Yeah, that's people I'm afraid - why let a lack of any knowlege get in the way of 'their opinion'.
I guess all you can do is grow thick skin.

Life, as they say, ain't fair, sadly.
And Staffs are not the only living thing to be demonised.
Sometimes we do it to people, as well.
