Who cares for your pet when you're away?
Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
We've only left him once & that was cause when we bought him we'd already paid for a holiday to Eire and didn't want to put him through all the necessary for a pet passport (not even sure there was enough time) so he went to a specialist bull terrier boarding kennel & they looked after him really well.

Kaos has never been left, Ty was left in july as we were on our honeymoon. He stayed in a reccommended kennels which i have to say looked fantastic. We were not happy when we picked him up though for loads of different reasons. Just a few: He had a cut (and i would call it a cutt as oposed to a scratch) from his groin right up to nearly his neck, he cowerd every time we put our hand down to stroke him, we sent him with 2 2kg bags on jwb food and they told me he run out so they had been giving him wagg (of all things??) 1 2 kg bag normally lasts him about 1 week. They lost his collar....I could go on and on......
Needless to say they will not be going there again!!!

Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
On the very odd occasions that we have to then my stepson always has Tilly and then she has 2 big Bull Mastiffs to play with but even then lately she has sulked more than she played so most of the time our lives are geared around not having to leave her , so dog friendly holidays and pubs , leaving mum and home while I take the daughter shopping etc

We've had Rocky about 18 months now and have not been away, so no need to leave him with anyone.

Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
I have never left my boy for longer than two nights. He will mostly come with me. I live in a cottage and the people in the house look after him. He loves their dogs and their kids and they all love him. Does not stop me leaving pages and pages of instructions for his care though. I am sure they think I am OTT!

Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
I havent gone away for years because my Schipperke has really bad seperation anxiety. The first time I left him with my parents, but he toileted all in their house and got so anxious mum had to take him everywhere with her. He also escaped twice (despite their 6 foot fences) so I can't leave him with them again. The last time I left I put him in the boarding kennels but he got so stressed out he didnt eat for the 4 days I was away, pee'd all in his bedding and chewed his feet til they bled. He was in a bad way when I got him back
I have only been away once since getting Bull - and was able to organise getting his previous owner to come and feed him. Anyone else I would be too scared to leave him with as he can be aggressive and unpredictable(was previously used as a guard dog). He also tends to be worse when confined so don't know (or want to risk) what he would be like in a kennels situation - although he may well be fine as it is not his 'territory' as such.
I'm going away for a couple of days in January next year, and I'm ALREADY stressed out about what to do with my pets

Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
always going to be a problem and I see you have extra problems because of the background , we don't leave ours but if it was an emergency then it would be kennels just have to be really selective over which one though there are a couple of decent ones around here

Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
We left Debo once. At the weekend when we got him my mum was in critical condition in hospital,we decided that only I gonna go ( I'm from Poland) .But sadly she died so my OH joined my for the funeral and we had to leave DEbo with my employers for 3days. That was the only time we left him,he always travel with us.

Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
we are fortunate that we can leave Charlie with family members. My ex MIL lives across the road so if we are away for a night he goes there.
Had to go away for a weekend recently and my SIL had him. She has 3 staffs and a french bulldog so I'm very confident she knows what shes doing and because Charlie has been past from pillar to post in the past, he seems at home where ever he is. Was lovely when I went to collect him. He had a look on his face of surprise and excitement that I had come back. Melted my heart lol
We haven't had to leave Star. But the same will apply, although if we were considering a family holiday I'd try my best to make sure the dogs could come, after all they are my children.

Most of our family members refuse to have our 2 and the ones that are ok live too far away . The boy used to have Tilly for us but he has an English Bull Mastiff , and since Tilly has now got a bitch and a son so we just think it's a little bit to put on them as it can be quite chaos when everybody and the dogs are in our house at once

Re: Who cares for your pet when you're away?
Dave, I can imagine it is chaos . Its bad enough here on the weekend when all 6 of our kids are at home and the dogs and cat lol. My sil has purpose built kennels for her dogs, which obviously makes it easier for her.
My sister on the other hand refused to have Charlie because her husband isn't sure of him due to his breed! These are the people that had 2 german sheperds and a jack russel (they were all soppy, just as my charlie)
