7 month old pup bit another dog
Hi, I’m new to the group and looking for advice. My 7 month old staffy ran up to another dog yesterday at the local dog park, I think tried to play and dog didn’t want to so I’m assuming tried to put mine in it’s place and instead of backing down mine attacked and bit him. I had to grab hold of her harness and pull her off, she hadnt latched on. She is very full on and playful however have never seen any aggression before. I’ve been advised to keep her on the lead and that she does not need to socialise with other dogs, I always thought that was very important I’m going to consult with a behaviourist but in the meantime looking for advice. I never let her off when other dogs are on the lead only when I can see that others are off. Many thanks, any advice much appreciated.

Without actually being there and seeing what happened, it's hard to say whether she was 'at fault'. Although socialisation is important, that doesn't mean free play with every dog you come across.
Don't let her free play with any dog you don't know. Let them sniff each other first, maybe walk together on lead before allowing free play. Your girl is a 'teenager' and may not always be showing good manners. The last thing you want is a dog to tell her off & she retaliates - which can be a problem with Staffords.
I would invest in a long line so that you have control at all times, and do calm introductions before allowing play.

Thank you. I feel a bit stupid to be honest as that makes so much sense I’ve ordered a long line so will use that when it arrives. I’m seeing a dog behaviourist today and booking three sessions. I’ll also organise some play dates with dogs that I know. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Hopefully it was a one off and with a bit more guidance and sensible interactions she’ll be ok. Thanks again for replying

I seriously wouldn't worry about it too much at the moment - she's a teenager, but with the strength of a grown dog! Her hormones are running riot & she's probably a bit short-fused at the moment.
Let us know how you get on with the behaviourist.
