entropion
Has anyone had any experience with entropion? I have an 8 months old female staff, and I am wondering if it has a chance to grow out of it. Currently I'm using gels to protect the eye until she reaches 18 months surgery age...

Re: entropion
Hi & welcome.
To be honest I have never heard of a pup growing out of entropion. Although I have heard vets say it's possible by about 12 months old.
Have you told the breeder? It can be hereditary.
The good news is that surgery is fairly straightforward and should completely solve the problem. Will your vet be able to do it in house or will you have to go to a specialist?

Re: entropion
Thank you, appreciate the insight.
Yeah, this can only be hereditary according to the vet. I told the breeder and am a bit disappointed of his response, as at least one of the parents should have it.
Vet thinks of operating on 18th month, till then topical treatments.
Another problem is her undershot bite...I primarily wonder when the headsplit, if she can breakaway from either of these issues, as the breeder swore he didn't have any such problems in his line...

Their heads don't 'split', they just mature & the muscles become stronger & more pronounced. It her mouth is only slightly undershot it may correct itself, but also may not. The bite may not be the breeder's fault as under & overshot bites can surface after two or three generations - it's often the luck of the draw. The entropion is a bit more complex. It could be that both parents carry one gene, but are not 'acftected', whereas your poor girl has drawn the short straw & received an affected gene from both parents, which has resulted in her displaying the fault.
The operation should correct it, but you won't be able to show her, if that's what you were considering. If not, there's no problem & she'll have a happy & contented life as your best pal!
