So we have a new neighbour. The family moved in last weekend; parents, teenage children and family dog. Mia is a siberian husky. If she’s got papers, her “M” of her name means she’s 4 years old.
But Mia could also be called Houdini ...

During the time I was working in the garden with OH this afternoon, Mia escaped twice with teenage kids running around the village trying to find her.

I alerted them the first time, as I saw her leg it down the road. The teenagers went to fetch her and I saw them carrying her back. I asked them if everything was ok, thinking she was injured but in fact, she was cowering on the end of her lead refusing to move.
I saw her close up, big tufts of moulting coat too.

I fear this is another case of buying a cute puppy, fashion item, without bothering to research the animal’s needs. I’m not sure she’s getting physical and mental stimulation that this breed in particular needs. She definitely needs a good groom too but the teenagers just spent all day sat in the garden with music up loud whilst parents were out.

Poor Mia, this is a very small village in the country where everyone drives very quickly and where farmers in oversized vehicles think they have priority. They certainly don’t slow down for horses on the road, not sure they’ll even see a stray dog ...

Please stay safe Mia

A husky type dog in a untrained family is going to be a nightmare! They need lots of exercise & mental stimulation!! She needs to be working or at least kept occupied to have a good life.

She’s apparently occupying herself by visiting the village ... Straight Face

I don’t know where this family lived before but her garden is not going to be enough to keep her contented

Well one week later and it could almost be seen as amusing, if it wasn’t quite so tragic.
A bunch of teenagers running along the main road calling to Mia. At least she’s getting them moving.

But I always say that I live along a “tractor motorway”, the agricultural activity is very high here in the countryside. The farmers are all very busy harvesting corn at the moment, you can imagine the size and weight of the agricultural machinery currently on the roads. None of them could swerve or emergency brake to avoid Mia ... I fear the worst.

When we moved into the house here, another neighbour had a husky but theirs lived in an outdoor cage of 2mx3m Sad

I would venture to think that part of her escape acts it to get attention as the kids drop everything to rescue her. Such a shame that they can’t work in prevention rather than cure.

There are loads of places to explore on the lead here (I presume her recall needs work) and there are so many ways to challenge her intellect rather than letting her find all ways of getting out.
