IBS
Donnam68 wrote:Hi Guys, am new to the site and would like a bit of advice.
I have 2 twelve month old blue SBT's (sisters). One of them has had diarrhea with bits of blood in for a few weeks, after several tests at the vets there's been no infections/parasites the vet seems to think she has IBS and have put her on more antibiotics and steroids. I've also been advised to change her diet to grain free.
If anyone has any info/advice they could share, it would be much appreciated.

Hi & welcome.
Maybe one of the admin could move this to its own thread?
What food do you give your girls?

Re: IBS
Okay, whilst the food from the vets is good (in as much as it has been veterinary researched) it still isn't the best, and us very overpriced.
However, grain free is a good start. Has your vet mentioned using a pre/pro biotic? Forte Flora has good reviews as does Protexin.
I would try that first and if that doesn't work, try switching to a single protein raw mix. Do you know if she is sensitive to any meat? Poultry is high on the list for intolerance and I think the sensitive Prescription Diet (the vets one) contains chicken?

Re: IBS
I've only given her what the vet has prescribed for now. Just wanted to see if the antibiotics worked. She has gain a little bit of weight but the vet has given her more antibiotics and steroids. She still has diarreah with blood in but apart from that, she seems ok. When out on walks she runs n plays with her sister, she doesn't seem to be in pain.
Hopefully, we ll see a bit of progress with her in the next couple of days and I will try what you have suggested.
Thanks for the advice

Re: IBS
Hope you see improvement in your girl.
2 of the big makes of premium grain-free kibble are orijen and acana.
I have used both in the past and find acana as good as orijen with the added plus that it’s a little cheaper.
But do be careful as these kibbles contain eggs and I think my Nifty is egg intolerant.
Today I am very happy with Carnilove kibble and tinned food, if you can get it where you are.

Re: IBS
I have ordered some Purina Pro biotic which should arrive tomorrow so iam going to see if that helps.she has
Vomited a little bit but I think that is due to the steroids. Hopefully we,ll see a bit of improvement over the next couple of days and she is back at the vets for a check up on Friday
Once again thanks for all the advice.
