Re: bloodlines
Hi & welcome.
If the pup you're looking at is from two blue parents, please think very hard! Skin problems (including Colour Dilution Alopaecia) are very common in dogs with two blue parents. I'm not saying the breeders you are looking at are bad (they may be great), but very often, blue-bred litters are from people who are interested solely in money.
Please also check that all hereditary problems have been tested for - if you need a list, just shout!

Re: bloodlines
Hiya and welcome firstly sorry for your loss, and yes as Gilly has mentioned about the colour dilution due to blue on blue breeding is a risk. My boy has blue parents and although didnt know about the risk factors at the time I would certainly look into it in greater depth if I was to ever have another blue. I have so many skin allergies and problems with Vinnie since he was a pup. Sorry I havent heard of the bloodline you are mentioning but worth as said looking into at depth

Re: bloodlines
Hello and welcome.
So sorry to hear of your loss, glad you consider continuing your staffy experience.
I’ve not heard of Thorn bloodlines either but echo the caution needed when considering the acquisition of a blue.
Good luck and do let us know how you get on.
Maybe you could just pop into the New Members Introductions section here and tell us a little about yourself in the meantime

Re: bloodlines
I just wish 'breeders' would stop using the 'rare colour' card to sell blue litters for loads of money.
Between April & June 202 litters were registered with the UK Kennel Club. Out of those 202,162 were either totally blue litters, or contained at least 2 blues in the litter. That's over 3/4 of the total registrations, and it's the same for previous periods as well. The trou le is, most of those are not well bred, but have been bred for money, with little or no health checks.

Re: bloodlines
It will also depend on if you have any specific plans for your canine friend like showing or breeding which require that certain “specifications” be met.
To be a true family member and companion, most faults will just require more or less management.

Re: bloodlines
Unfortunately we made this mistake when we got Gus. He wasn’t full blue but we are convinced that the blue gene in him had something to do with the problems he ended up with.
Keep us posted on what you decide and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Re: bloodlines
Yes he had skin allergies. But it was the problems that he had with his joints that were the real problem and the reason why we had to have him put to sleep. All very sad but we didn’t realise at the time what problems can be caused by poor breeding decisions.

Re: bloodlines
Oh James sorry to hear that, Vin has been diagnosed with very bad Arthiritis in his elbow and the vet did say he suspected that it had not really developed properly from a pup so guessing again bad bloody breeding like you wish I had known but he is here with me and has been for 8 years so we do everything we can. But these bad breeders must be stopped its diabolical xJnestie84 wrote:Yes he had skin allergies.
