When you buy a pup does it choose one person in the family as my partner bought one and the pup seems to go to his dad more

It all depends on so many things! 
Some pups seem to tend to bond more with men, some with women.
Often, it comes down to who feeds/trains/comforts the pup most.

Well I feed him and train and comfort but he still goes to my dad

Maybe he's just a man's dog!
It often changes a bit when they mature, though.
Does your partner's dad discipline him at all? If not, then he probably goes to him because he's a softie!

Dogs do often pick one person to be closer to. Chaos is definitely a mummy's boy whereas Millie is daddy's girl. It's a bit like us, we're sometimes drawn to one person above another. It's not that we don't like the other, it's just a stronger feeling.
As long as you're all happy, I wouldn't worry about it. It's just one of those things you can't do much about.

Katy is a daddies girl for rough play & cuddles at bed time but the rest of the time she wants me for food, walkies & company
