Arrested by the Police..

Hi all, dunno how it works in the UK but I was walking with my baby this afternoon and the police stopped me and asked me why my baby didn't wear a muzzle, that he was a very dangerous dog, blabla, I said he was not in the list of dangerous dogs ( there are no dangerous dogs but dangerous owners we all know that...) I  live in the countryside, my boy is an angel, he did not deserved that, I rescued him from a shelter when he was 4month old, I'm really pissed off, a kiss to you all and your staffies ;-)

Please sign  the petition to the stop the Staffordshire Bull Terrier becoming blacklisted as a 'dangerous dog'

There are no plans in the UK to put the Stafford on the list, so petitions over here aren't going to get anywhere.

And if petitions in Le Mans are the same as in the UK, you can only sign if you're a resident.

I’m guessing that the police stopped you because, unfortunately, Loostik looks like an AmStaff cross = category 1 in the dangerous dogs law.

The police and CPS refuse to handle animal cruelty cases yet they're happy to waste resources hassling law-abiding people walking their dogs. That's modern Britain for you, easy targets FTW!

The police in the UK, in general, don't want BSL. But they're stuck with it, just as we are.

Dams29 -> I don’t suppose you got breed papers when you rescued your boy ?

The law is a bit ambiguous when it comes to the exemption of the “de race Staffordshire Bull Terrier” (as opposed to AmStaff and Pit bull), it’s not clear whether it relates to SBT with breed papers (which serve as additional proof) or just SBT breeding.

Unfortunately, if you can’t prove he is SBT then they will see him as category 2 at best or category 1 ...

@Nifty staffy Yes when we adopted our boy from a shelter they said they didn't know exactly the breed, where he came from, he was only 4 month old, staffy, amstaff, he is officially labelled X Bull Terrier..

Well in that case, the police was wrong and maybe showing his passport with X Bull Terrier should keep them at bay. Loostik is really lovely btw.

Assuming you are talking about the law in France, you need to have a look at the actual wording to see if Loostik fits the description:

You'll see from there that it is all about looks and measurements, breeding only comes into it if you have a papered pure bred dog, I'm afraid. If he does fit the description, then you will need to follow the requirements re muzzle, lead, etc. If not, talk to your vet (or maybe do that anyway), I understand that you can get a vet to certify that your dog doesn't match the description and is therefore not a category 1 dog. Or I hope that's correct as we are currently at our home in Normandy with Chaos, with a vet certificate in the drawer just in case!
