Beware - underground wasps!
Just come across this story -
http://www.northsomersettimes.co.uk/news/underground-wasps-fear-in-nailsea-field-near-tickenham-1-5243485?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=somersetnews
Dog walkers are being told to be wary of underground or paper wasps nests.
They become very aggressive when protecting the queen wasp.
This story is from north Somerset so I don't know if it will affect all areas.
Be careful!

Re: Beware - underground wasps!
Thing is you would never know until right on top of the nest I guess.
I had a worry at the end of my garden, there is or looks to be bees or wasps burrowing but I did a bit of research (ok googling) and they actually look like hover flies which are yellow striped too. Hope I'm right

Re: Beware - underground wasps!
Hover flies are harmless thankfully!
We had bumble bees in our wall in the front garden this summer. Had to ask a bee keeper to come and remove them. They loved my rose Bush!
