In need of some reassurance.
All I keep getting from people is ...
Staffies are unpredictable.
I wouldn't trust him near the kids.
He's a dangerous dog.
You have three children why do you have a staffy of all breeds?
Why did you get a dog that wasn't trained?
Why did you get a rescue, you don't know his past, he's probably already aggressive!
I'm now very tired of coming up with replies and explaining his situation every single time.
The last two people I was a bit rude to and told them to mind their own business
Is it just me or does anyone else get these kind of comments?

Honestly I'd just smile and walk away. I meet so many other staffy owners and it's a common thing. The best response is showing what a well trained dog you have. Staffs are not known as Nanny Dogs for no reason, they adore children.

Re: In need of some reassurance.
Chase loves the kiddies, sometimes a little bit too much but we're working on that.
The most he'd do is lick them to death!
He did growl at a neighbour yesterday but he still has his E- collar on so is wary of everything cos he's sight is restricted and she normally comes out of her flat with her two collies. It wasn't a nasty growl, more of an unsure half bark grumble but his tail was still wagging.
She now won't go near him and said she doesn't trust him anymore :-(
I met an old guy today whose only ever owned Staffies and said they're lovely but can be unpredictable ... But so can any dog!
It just makes me sad for the breed.

Re: In need of some reassurance.
Oh you just have to ignore them and smile and move on, he’s your dog not theirs. And as for your neighbour that’s abit dramatic especially for her having dogs herself they bark and growl for no reason at all at any time of day.. hank was going nuts the other day over a jerry can that was left on the path opposite our house I had to go and move it
It’s just dogs way of communication he could have just been telling her about his new discomfort hehe

Lol crystal.
Well if Chase is nearly two like the vet says I could have another ten years of this!
Think I'm gonna have to get that thick skin fast!
People are to opinionated sometimes!

Re: In need of some reassurance.
Walk Chase with confidence, less people will say anything if you walk a well behaved Staffy with your head held high. You be been known to say the odd comment back like, it's ok she's had her breakfast already today or the only danger you face is being licked to death.
There's no point in giving those sort of people an excuse to have a dig, smile and walk on

Yes we all have grown a thick skin, people that don't know our wonderful breed are the ones missing out!! I have a problem with people with little white fluffy things that bark at Katy, so I usually tell her quite loudly that it would get stuck in her teeth

Lol!
We were out in the car earlier today and the kids were saying how cute a little dachshund was ... Both myself and Matt said at the same time "its not even big enough for Chase to use as a tooth pick!"

Re: In need of some reassurance.
Little dogs have serious attitude problems!!! But really not worth the effort. A miserable woman near me walks this white bichon thing that insists on having a go a Katy, so she responds & I get the filthiest look ever It's her rat that starts it but I don't let Katy finish it

Re: In need of some reassurance.
Chase can't stand one bungalow we walk by that has two yappy, teeth baring Jack Russell's.
I had to change his afternoon walk cos it gets him so wound up. He can't understand why they don't want to play which then sends him into Crazy-Chase mode and it sounds like I'm murdering him!
He's pretty good apart from the yappy Little dogs. Just wants to play but other owners don't see it that way all the time.
