Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
It's almost been two weeks of owning Chase.
This is how we describe him ...
Boisterous, over playful, jumpy-humpy, very loving, cuddly, bulldozer, cute, Jekyll and Hyde.
His nicknames ...
"The Paw Patrol Pup" "Chase-Face" "Little Git" "Little Sod" "Gorgeous Boy"
Chase can ...
"sit" , "paw" and "leave it" when playing with his toys.
Chase is learning to ...
"Walk on", not jump up, not hump and not get too excited.
Chase is still settling in with us but has calmed down a lot since being here.

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
That's an awful lot of progress in ONLY 2 weeks, and you forget to mention new life for him in a loving family atmosphere

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Ask your average staffie rehomer how long it took them to teach their new dog not to jump up or get over excited - most would say way longer than 2 weeks! You're doing amazingly well.
Chase Face, I like that

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Monday the 4th of September 2017.
Took Chase to Tarr Steps (ancient monument) today for a 2 and a half mile, two hour family hike beside the river Barle.
He met lots of dogs including two female Staffies whose owners couldn't praise us enough for taking him on and doing what we're doing for him.
He did get excited when meeting other dogs but there was no signs of aggression, just wanted to play with them all!
He enjoyed paddling in the river up to his belly where he then pawed at the water and got us all soaked ... Little git!
He did well with a bit of loose lead training, even though I forgot the clicker, and now understands that a slight pull on the lead followed by "wait" means he has to stop and wait for "walk on" before he can move again! (mainly so I didn't slip over on the slippery rocks and tree roots)
He's a smart boy! (Will be replacing the slight pull with the clicker next time)
He's also spent half hour with us in the front room playing with his ropes and chewing his bone ... Before trying to hump me on the sofa and being sent to time out!
I'd say he's happy with us, he's certainly improving a little at a time!

Sounds like you all had a great day
Little by little he will settle down and get used to the family routine and before you know it you'll have forgotten what a little sod he once was.

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Tuesday the 5th of September 2017.
I asked Chase to " get ya bone" he went and got his bone!
I asked Chase to "sit ... Stay" and he sat and stayed!
I didn't teach him any of this! Maybe as he settles in over the weeks more tricks he knows will emerge.
Chase is learning ...
"lay down" with the clicker and treats.
He gets so excited bless him but he's getting it!
We've ordered Chase a brand new red collar to match his red lead and a red engraved info bone to go on it.
Thought this was needed as we're still having issues with changing his chip details and we're off for a long weekend to the in-laws at the end of the month.
We've worked out ...
Chase walks much better on the collar and not the harness (hence buying a new comfy collar)
Chase still ...
Occasionally jumps up in excitement.
Chews the stair carpet in frustration despite loads of New rope toys (squeaky ball lasted seconds!)

He sounds like a smart cookie, it's funny how some do better on a collar and others a harness, if it works happy days

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Sunday the 10th of September 2017
Chase seems to be settling in well.
He no longer cries when we all leave the house.
Chase can come when called when off the lead when Matt is walking him on the commons and he doesn't venture too far away.
Chase has become very mouthy (more than before) when trying to stop the jumping and humping but hoping this will sort itself after the snip.
Bought Chase a nine metre cable and screw yesterday for when we're at the in-laws in a few weeks.
It should give him his freedom in their huge garden without him terrorising any neighbouring sheep and chickens and will also help with recall training.
We've stopped using the harness completely and he seems happier with his new comfy collar.
I had two days of loose lead walking after he'd calmed down from being excited about walking this week ... We're getting there!

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Thursday the 14th of September 2017.
Chase has mastered "sit" with and without the clicker!
He's learnt the command "off" when jumping up!
Chase has become even more mouthy and nippy when playing and gets very over excited.
Chase also gets very excited, prancy, jumpy, pulls onto his back legs when there is a small yappy dog anywhere near him.
Still no aggression though.
Still trying to find a vets that will take payment in instalments to get him snipped sooner but otherwise he'll be done in October.

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
The 17th of September 2017.
We have breakthrough!
Chase is finally able to spend time with us all as a family in the house ... This makes me the so happy ... I was so worried that this couldn't be achieved!
It's still early days but he's now understanding that he needs to be gentle and calm and not charge around all the time!
Chase is gradually becoming calmer overall and I believe all his naughtiness when he first came to us was partly him being scared, worried, confused and anxious at being somewhere new.
Chase has learnt that the clicker means fun and treats and now just the sound of me picking it up (it has a wrist strap and clip that makes it jingle) gets him focused on the clicker and ready to learn!
He's a very intelligent, very bright dog that just hadn't been given what we're now giving him and the change in him is amazing considering its not quite been four weeks yet!
He's the most loving little guy and buries his head into you so he gets a longer and bigger cuddle.
He loves being told he's a "good boy" and wags his tail like a helicopter!
I've started using the word "gentle" when he licks us so when he starts to mouth and nip I'll use "gentle" in hope he'll lick instead and eventually fade the mouthing away.

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Tuesday the 19th of September 2017.
We've now had Chase for 4 weeks!
Chase did great on his second training class this evening and is now wearing a brand new Kumfi Complete Control Harness with Kumfi Training Lead.
I love that it has a D ring on the chest to clip the lead to, means that if he pulls he spins himself around to face me ... Which he hates so doesn't pull!
Matt did the majority of the training tonight ... A short walk through the village, waiting calmly at a door, going through a door, greeting people coming through a door, food manners, walking together with other dogs ... And I did recall with him at the end.
Chase was very excitable at being around the other dogs and very whiney cos he wanted to play with them all but once you had his attention away from the other dogs he did great!
I was pleased to hear that there is another rescue staffy at the class we go to that acted exactly the way Chase does and has almost the exact story we have (original owners shut it away cos it got too boisterous) but is now (almost) perfectly behaved.
We'll meet them when Chase has recovered from his surgery and goes back to training in a couple of weeks.
Chase is now flaked out in his crate snoring and dreaming away bless him.
Feeling blessed to have him in our lives.

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Chase-Face has stuck and he gets called a little sod if he's jumping, humping, mouthing and nipping.
When booking him in for neutering I described him as a Staffordshire Bull DOZER not a Staffordshire Bull Terrier ... Oops lol.
He's getting there slowly bless him. Just needed the love and attention.

Re: Chase (the Paw Patrol Pup)
Chase has another nickname now:- Crazy-Chase!
Chase was neutered last Monday and had his check up today.
He's doing great and has healed brilliantly. He has a few more days of wearing the cone but only until all his pain medication has been used up then he can resume his off lead walks and zoomies and we can get back to training classes ... Woohoo!
We are now in the process of moving in with the in-laws to Hampshire and hope to be settled in before Christmas.
This can only mean good things for Chase ..
More people to socialise with, New doggies to meet at New training classes, a huge field for a garden to run and play in everyday and so many more different places to walk!
