Re: Old boy
Hi there, welcome to the forum albeit in not the best of circumstances.
Having just looked up carpreive it doesn't say anywhere that excessive pee is a side effect or that it causes dehydration, that's not to say it hasn't aggregated something else though. I would get the earliest appointment you can with your vet and have them review things.
Do let us know how you get on.

Re: Old boy
That's a great picture.
I know how you feel, my girl isn't doing too good at the moment and is also about 11, it does make you ask what's best for them.
She's on Rimadyl which is also an anti inflammatory for a spinal cord compression, not sure if it does exactly the same thing that your lad needs meds for but might be worth mentioning to your vet as a possible alternative?

Re: Old boy
We have a vets review on Thursday and are hoping the meds kick in before then, the scary thing is how quickly things change as I'm sure you're well aware.
I hope your lad feels better and your mate can get him sorted and comfortable

Re: Old boy
Yeh Ian he's calmed down with his drinking and weeing now only a small lake not an ocean
The vet has told me to hold off on the tablets till Wednesday and monitor and record the amount he's drinking it looks like his kidneys are a little weak and the steroid injection he had may have agrivated his weakness once we get his weeing and drinking back to normal then we can start his pills
Fingers x he seams a lot better today
Thanks for asking Ian
I'll be thinking of you and your baby girl on Thursday please let me know how you go on it's heart breaking

Re: Old boy
Ah great news, pleased to read he's feeling better today
We've had a good day today, she's been resting like she's supposed to but was eager to play this evening. I'd like to think she's feeling a bit better in herself, though the wobbly back legs haven't improved, still, we aren't at Thursday yet so there's time to see if anything improves and thanks for your thoughts.
I will let you know.

Re: Old boy
I'm glad the drinking has reduced and it sounds like your vet buddy is good and on the case.
Watching our dogs getting older is the worst thing ever. It's so hard sometimes.

Re: Old boy
Ah, I did say I'd let you know opps
Well the meds had no effect on Flo, if anything she got a little worse. Made the early morning trek on Thursday and the vet has reviewed the MRI and come up with a less drastic solution which is to bore thru the disc and collapse the bit causing the pressure. Hopefully that will be all that's needed, however, he has urged caution as they won't know exactly until they are in and looking at it, so there is a possibility that they will remove a part of the vertebrae too. Downside to that is that she'll need plates etc to its fingers crossed that the first option works ok.
As an aside, I lifted Flo's rear end when she was standing awkwardly yesterday and she felt so light, it's only now dawned on me that this is because she's transferred all her weight to her front end. I'm amazed at how adaptable they are.
