Bolted

On our walk today Gus went off to have a good sniff only for him to get spooked and bolt for home. I ran after him to find him to find him playing with our next door neighbours kids. I don't know what spooked him and I've never seen him like that before, I felt so sorry for him. I will pop down later to have a look if I can see what was down there.

Ah might be safe james to use a long line and practice recall a long line gives them freedom but security and peace of mind for you. Hope gus is ok.

To be fair his recall is really good. We have really made a big effort with recall although we realise it's still a work in progress. Something must have really spooked him as he wouldn't go back that way this evening. My wife did say he was very reluctant to go that way the other day. Maybe we have a Sasquatch down in our woods

No idea what a sasquatch is perhaps associate that place with positive things such as a toy or treats

I will give that a go tomorrow. Sasquatch is a Bigfoot.

Katy is known to bolt when scared or spooked. Usually there is a gate stopping her but once a numpty left the 1st gate open & I found her at home. Luckily it's at the end of our lane & no roads to cross

We are lucky where we live as the fields and forest back onto our house. At least the neighbours and their kids are used to and like Gus.

I would rather she ran to me than run off, sometimes she does especially if it's another dog that may be trying to say hello to her mum She can spook at silly things that weren't there yesterday but are now

Young ones can get spooked very easily and most often the cause is something they can hear but not see.In fact I have known our Tess get spooked by a very big bird flying across the garden.

Jen,I think it is all to do with their make-up.Tess is exactly the same,I would never call her a laid back dog,she can jump sometimes if someone drops something.She is always alert to what is going on around her,never misses a thing.
I think without doubt she is the smartest staff that I have ever owned,and at times i'm sure she can read peoples minds.It always amazes me the senses that a dog has that we don't.

Mia was a smart cookie had her registered with 2 vet practices . My o.h is blind don't ask me how mia knew we were going to vet one day o.h said to mia find the kerb by which she did i almost cried with happiness as she was so clever dogs are more intelligent than humans i reckon never amazes me the capabilities of a staffy . Can u tell im daft or is the fact im daft on staffies
