Muddy Dog Challenge
Has anyone done the Battersea Muddy Dog Challenge before. I've just signed me and Misty up for the Windsor run next month. I'm really nervous but also excited. I've been watching videos from last year and it looks great fun! All the dogs get quite a bit of space and it looks very relaxed.
I'm not sure if she will go through some of the water challenges but if she doesn't we can go around those ones.
The biggest challenge is getting my fitness up, I'll be at the gym training for the next month now!
I'd love to hear any of your experiences.

Re: Muddy Dog Challenge
Well the big day is only 48 hours away! To say I'm nervous is an understatement. Misty and I have been out running together - I say running but it's more like she drags me behind her at100mph.I've been taking her to Windsor to get her used to the area.
Had a lovely email from Battersea saying the dogs happiness is the most important and if your dog isn't enjoying an obstacle then just skip it and miss it. They also have volunteers who will hold your dog if you want to do an obstacle but you don't have to.
At least if Misty hates it then we can just run straight through everything. Although judging by how happy she was when I got dragged into a stinky stream in Bushy Park the other day in thinking she might like it!
Fingers and paws crossed.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! Will try to get some video to upload. Although it's been raining constantly since Wednesday so I'm hoping that soda for tomorrow as I know a little doggy who refuses to go out in the rain!

Re: Muddy Dog Challenge
Well it's taken me ages to get around to writing this so here goes.
I didn't sleep Friday night as I was so nervous about Saturday! So we arrive on site at 5.10 and our running time was 5.30. It started perfectly as misty went straight up to a lady volunteer and allowed her to stroke her when she was talking to us. We got put into a holding pen where the compare on the microphone told a few jokes and made us do some warm up exercises. We were put next to a very noisy very hyper very excited collie cross. I was worried all the noise might stress misty out but oh no she was a little angel. She just stood patiently next to me. I was in shock, she was just so calm and there was a lot of people and noise but she didn't mind. The race sets off and we end up near the front so we go over and under tree branches, under crawl nets, crawl around in mud and generally have a wonderful time. She did refuse the obstacles which involved climbing into pools and I did something I NEVER thought I would. I actually gave her to the volunteers to hold while I completed the ones she didn't want to do. She was excellent with all the volunteers, they all mentioned how strong she was! She was fantastic, the last obstacle was a huge muddy pit which was humans only so a lady walked misty around to the other side. I was a bit stressed as I worried I was gone too long but misty was a star, she was sat down and the lady was giving her treats. I just cannot say how proud I was of her.
Even crossing the finish line we were interviewed and a lady held a Mic up and misty was perfect, she just went to the other people cheering us for a stroke.
Misty was perfectly behaved I was so proud of her.
I would recommend anyone to do it and its raising money for a very good cause. The volunteers throughout the course were fantastic, they made it a great day out. I would say that misty being a staffy just got so many smiles from everyone it was lovely. Also I must mention that I saw at least another four or five Staffords and all were perfectly behaved. We got a medal and rosette when we crossed the finishing line too! The special camera I bought and attached to my arm was pointless, I ended up with 45 minutes of sky!
I'm going to sign us up again for the one in Kent in September!!

Aww well done the pair of you, sounds like you had a blast especially if you're gonna do another one
I'm glad Misty surprised you, they have that ability to be the perfect dog just when you need them to be, sometimes it just takes a little trust... And well done for raising money for a cause close to my and Flo's hearts
