Price of a puppy? Empty Price of a puppy?

Post by Billybunter Mon Nov 28 2016, 20:08

Recently I was checking up to see what prices that people are paying for a pup. I was quite shocked to see some of the prices. Anyone know what you should be paying for a puppy from a breeder? I usually rescue I was just been nosey.

Thanks Ian I always thought between 500 and 700 for a pup the prices I have been seeing lately are 900 to 1300.

check champdogs.co.uk i think sometimes it depends on the parents and the bloodline throughout. breeders have hiked the price i think mostly because of vaccinations and most recently microchipping Smile blue staffys sells for the most money .

That's the sort of range I would have thought too but 1300 is nuts Surprised I'd want it to make the dinner as well for that price.

However, I'm sure not far from here you can still get one down the pub for £50 Sad

The price people charge for pups is outrageous, especially 'designer' mongrels.

i think that price should always come second to quality. having said that, no stafford, no matter how many champions are in their lines, should cost more than £850/£900. colour should always be a last decider.

the good breeders do all the test & more, bring the pups up in the home & socialise them well before they leave. they also ask the potential new owner lots of questions, and make it clear that if anything goes wrong, the new owner should always go to the breeder first!

I got Nita from pets4homes, best thing I ever did, however it still annoys me a great deal when I see people putting them up for sale due to 'commitments' or 'moving house and landlord doesnt allow pets'. If you wouldn't sell your own family then why your 4 legged family member

in particular i think people have a misconception of the care a dog actually needs combined with vet bills and routine and breed dependant the care a particular dog needs . In purchasing a puppy id recommend reading up about that particular breed always check the parents . usually a decent breeder won't mind you asking about the parents and grandparent's of the dog ie: health conditions if any and also temprement. For me id always have a staffy another staffy is a long way forward but id definitely consider another staffy no other breed compares.

although i do understand what you are saying, sometimes people who rent are forced to move home & if they have children they may have to accept another rental that doesn't allow dogs. children must always come first, although you can always 'hide' the fact that you have a dog - but if you're found out you may be evicted, and that will go against you when you try to rent again. things aren't always black and white.

You can get good quality puppies, health tested, registered for £650.

If the parents & puppies are not health tested for hereditary diseases - walk away.

Price of a puppy? Empty Re: Price of a puppy?

Post by Phantomfamily Mon Jan 09 2017, 10:56

Phantom came from a KC breeder with lots of champions in his bloodline. We weren't looking for a Staff to show or stud but we wanted to have health certificates for hereditary diseases. We wanted to see a happy healthy mum and litter in a good home so we knew the pups first eight weeks were going to include decent nutrition and socialisation.

We paid £650 for Phantom, there were other non KC breeders advertising way above that price, particularly for blue pups. Not only was £650 a fantastic price for a pup wit such a good bloodline of champs, we got vet check, first jabs, health certificates, worming, defleaing, the breeder sent us pics between us putting a deposit down at 3 weeks till we picked him up. The breeder was so kind and helpful, we also keep in touch with the owners of his litter mates. If really helps me see that his development is on track.

I think if you are clear on what kind of dog you want and what health/temperament/price you can afford, it's easier to find a breeder who is right for you. It took us a year to find Paul on champdogs and we saved up enough to insure Phantom and to spend 200 quid on all the kit we needed (crate, bed, puppy food, vet fees, pads, toys etc)

I am glad we stayed under the £700 because I wouldn't have wanted to have to cheap with his food or insurance.
