Chloe has the onset of it, the vet has put her on maximum dose antibiotics and she has to go for spay on Thursday.. Just looked it up on google and it's really serious.. Anyone had this problem?

Re: pyrometra
I had to google it and it does seem serious, but as it's been caught so early i'm sure she will be fine once she has been spayed.
Hope she gets all better soon

Re: pyrometra
My first bitch had pyometra & that's why she was spayed.
Yes, it's serious, but if caught early it can be treated really well. At least it sounds like hers is an 'open' pyometra, rather than a 'closed' one. With a closed one you don't see any signs until it's really bad.

Re: pyrometra
Don't know which it is she gave her some antibiotics 80mg (names in another thread), and said they were the strongest she could give her. She said they can penetrate pus ?? Chloe is okay in herself, and the crazy thing is if we hadn't booked her in for a spay later this month we would have not noticed this illness

Re: pyrometra
Open Pyometra basically means that you can see the infection, ie you see puss/discharge from the vulva. If it's closed you don't get that warning & it can be very nasty.
As it's been spotted nice & early, though, the anti-bs & the spaying will put her right.

Really hope so..
At least I feel better about getting her spayed now, it's like she told us she's okay with our decision.... Thursday is going to be a long day

Re: pyrometra
i have Jemma in at the vets tonite at 6.40pm to check this and her rash (which im convinced is hayfever) but her discharge has not completly stopped, but has slowed down.
its not smelly, and normally clear or milky colour, so hopefully its jus a hormone inbalance.

Re: pyrometra
Lainey try not worry bout jemma, i'm sure spaying cures this infection... Jemma's spayed so she can't get it, I think it's a womb infection

Re: pyrometra
She should be fine, at least you caught it early and you can get her all sorted out. And as you were going to spay her anyway at least it can all be done at the same time!
