The vet scanned Daisy's liver and they found she has a melenoma in her liver. I am devestated, can't get my head round it. Felling pretty low at the moment. Crying or Very sad

Thank you. I am in bits to be honest. Trying to hold it together, but as you all know they are a very special dog like no other. I have had her since my youngest was a babe in nappies and she is at senior school now.

The vets thought it was cushings as her liver result was really high, but when they scanned her liver it had a large black mass. They said that the type of cancer that it is should respond well to cortisol or cortisone or something (I was too shocked to take it all in). They couldn't give me a timescale of how long she has. We are awaiting the blood results in the next few days so they can prescribe the correct medicine. I only lost my bully in January, but at least I have my puppy Ralph to cheer us up. Daisy is still playing with him as if nothing is wrong but she tires quickly bless her.

I will keep you all posted as to her progress. She is one in a million, nanny dog to 3 babes, surrogate mother to bulldog pups and absolute diamond, never had a nasty moment in her life, a real angel. She is loved very much. xx

Oh Clare, I'm so sad to hear this. I'm not surprised you're in bits and struggling to get your head round it.

I hope the vets can offer something to ease her through this, I know that whatever the options are you will do what's best for her.

We'll all be thinking of you. x

Daisy has Cancer Empty Re: Daisy has Cancer

Post by ClareGilby Sun Nov 06 2016, 19:32

Hi all, sorry not been on for a while. Daisy is doing alright considering. The vets have told us that there really isn't anything they can do. We can give her pain killers if she starts to look in pain, but to be honest when she gets to that stage I wouldn't want to prolong it as I would only be doing it for our benefit.

She is eating like a horse still as always but we can see that her spine is getting more prominent, we don't know how much longer we have. It could be weeks or a year. We are just enjoying her, letting her eat biscuits, crisps and whatever her heart desires, sod the teeth lol.

I try not to think about it really as she knows if I am upset and start hugging her so I try not to. We just carry on as normal. I know when the time comes I will call the vet out to let her go in her bed at home with her family around her. But until then we will enjoy x

I have been thinking about you and Daisy so much. Thank you for the update, even though it's not the most brilliant news.

Your plan sounds spot on, although I think I probably would give painkillers a go as long as she is happy. Although I 100% agree with the 'better a day too soon than a day to late' school of thought, you can still keep her as long as you can while it is also fair on her.

Do keep popping in, if just to say hello. X

Such a tough time Claire, in your position I would hope I would be as brave. Their well being is all and the fact Daisy still has quality of life gives you time to love and enjoy the time you have.
