Pixie's first season @ 9.5 months Empty Pixie's first season @ 9.5 months

Hi All,

So it appears our little pixie is starting her first season. About 3 days ago I noticed her lady parts looked slightly swollen then earlier this morning she had a little play on our bed and I noticed she had left a few light brown blood stains on the bedding, nothing heavy (sorry! bit gross i know). Does this sound about right? She was quite clingy last night too.

As you may/may not know we also have Ronnie 8.5 months, we certainly don't want them having a litter and we plan on getting Pixie spayed after her 1st season. I wanted to ask what days are the most 'dangerous' days...I'm hoping to book a few days off work to keep them separate without too much upset. So far Ronnie is ok, he keeps having a sniff when he can. I have noticed that he keeps weeing over Pixies wee the last day or so (great for my lawn!)

Ive also thought about getting her some of the doggy pants too, anyone used these before?

Thanks
charlottieg

Certainly sounds like she's coming in to or in season to me.

Be aware that males are fertile at around the same age as females so you will need to be super cautious that Ronnie doesn't do the dirty when you aren't looking.

she will be fertile any time after tge first 7 days, but that's just a rough estimate. better to keep them totally seperate for the full 21 days!

tge pants are great fir saving your furniture/carpets, but no goid whatsoever fir preventing a mating!

Oh bless her, I wouldn't waste money on doggy pants, Katy was fine all the time I was watching her but the minute I turned my back they were shredded. Lots of covers & throws on everything she sits on!!!! Definitely keeps her & Ronnie apart now for the next 4 wks!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Ronnie has been very good so far I'm hoping (wishful thinking?!) that he's not quite sure whats happening...he's not whining too much.

Just booked Pixie in at the vets to get spayed in 3 months time.

Should I notice any signs from Pixies when shes ready to encourage Ronnie to mate? At the moment she just growls at him and has no interest in playing at all.

I would just try and keep them apart until she is definitely finished. Misty has one season with us before we had her spayed and we had to walk her at five am and eleven pm each day and avoid parks just as we didn't want any accidents. I've heard that it's irresistible for males when they are in season so we didn't want anything to happen.

It's better safe then sorry but hopefully the weeks will go quickly. Once she's spayed you went have to worry. X
