Hi guys what the best age to start training my girl? She's 8 weeks old she does sit for a treat and being a typical puppy, we are trying to clicker train her but just wondering if her ignorance is basic puppy? (Recall is not there yet she just sits down, runs away) Want her to listen asap for when she goes out and meets other dogs, cats, people and other animals any advice welcomed

Re: Age
There's no right or wrong age, they are very smart and pick things up very quickly so I'd say start now and keep going and you will have a great well trained well behaved well balanced pooch !

Re: Age
Now is a good time to start teaching her the basics, they are very smart dogs. Keep it fun & rewarding for her but try to do it little & often as they can get bored

Re: Age
Agree with all above, Staffys are clever but can get bored quickly, Blue is just gone 4 month and been training him since 8 weeks, he likes treats, just keep preserving and it will come suddenly, Blue recall is not the best( call him if he can't be bothered he will just look ) so keep him on lead on streets, but will keep trying. Preserve Perserve.

Re: Age
At that age, keep training sessions very short, literally just a few minutes, and make sure they are always fun (a good tip for all training). Also, make sure you only ever ask what they can actually achieve fairly easily so as not to discourage.
These will give you some great ideas as to what you can do and how.

Re: Age
start training now and keep the sessions maximum 10 minutes you will have a clever and rather cute pup before you know it. master one command and move onto the next thing you want her to do use one word commands too

Re: Age
The best thing I did with my Dais was to take her to a good puppy class. I ended up staying there for 2 years and she got the adult higher group with off lead and hand signals for down and stay from a distance. It's the best thing I ever did and its really enjoyable and builds a wonderful bond between you and your dog because you can communicate with each other. They are incredibly intelligent and my girl still remembers all of her commands, worth investing the time you will reap the benefits. Enjoy x
