Just for fun Empty Just for fun

Post by Debs01 Fri Mar 04 2016, 07:20

Hey all I have just found an amazing group via a friend they are called Athletic canine enthusiast society and the run athletics for dogs over in West Sussex. They do coursing, weight pulling, high jump and loads more. There is a competitive day but also a fun day for all dogs of all breeds. I'm taking Axl on 19 March to do coursing and can't wait. It's all very safe, the dogs are kept separate and take turns one at a time. They also have group races for the ones that arnt DA. If anyone fancies coming on 19 March it will be a fun day out. Look them up they have their own website and a Facebook page!!

That sounds amazing, Debs! I can't wait to hear how you get on. Very jealous, by the way, I'd love something like that near me.

I'm all for dogs being fit, healthy and athletic but i can't agree with Coursing chasing a fake rabbit or not next it'll be someones fury pet or wild life, I can't encourage that, there are so many other methods for fun activities with ones dog.

I disagree it's a bit of fun it does not mean I will be allowing Axl to chase any wildlife or pets.

Anything to do with Coursing is not fun.
Allowing him to chase an animal one minute and then not another time is just confusing for the dog, unless you keep him on the lead constantly you may not have a choice whether he decides to course on a day you don't want him to, after all to him you were happy the first time he did it.

That's your opinion and again I disagree. All dogs have a natural instinct to chase I am giving him the ability to do something he (and all dogs) naturally wants to do every two weeks or so. I highly doubt it will turn him into a frenzied rabbit killer and in any event he usually is on a long lead and wears a muzzle so the wildlife and kitty cats are perfectly safe!

This is in a controlled environment I'm sure he will know right from wrong & be guided as always and I'm sure he's always walked on lead. If it was such an awful thing im sure it wouldn't be allowed to continue.
