Introducing Bronx
Hi guys, here is my 3 year old boy Bronx, fantastic dog, full of energy and does everything 100miles an hour!! hahahaha and also a brother to a 8 year old border collie Molly and a 2 year old French Bulldog Rogue.
The only thing is the poor guy gets hives and a skin irritation with patches of hair loss every 6 months it seems, tried him on all different foods, coconut oil, fish oil etc.... the only thing that will clear it is some antibiotics.. cephalexin.

Re: Introducing Bronx
Hi ya, welcome to the forum from Flo and me
Bronx looks like a fab little fella, seeing as you've tried everything to cure the hives but they still return, is there something in the garden that could be causing it? Just trying to think outside the box seeing as you all but exhausted other things

Re: Introducing Bronx
we have little gem magnolias and a few lily pilly hedging plants and thats pretty much it.... so nothing over the top. If it was something in the backyard im guessing it would be a constant thing... the issue goes away for months and them comes back with exactly the same symptoms as before...
ive been told to feed him nothing but kangaroo meat for 2months to see if that helps

Re: Introducing Bronx
I guess that's a good way to rule out food allergens. It really is a case of cutting things out until you find the cause, made even more difficult as it isn't happening all the time.
Do you have a picture of the hives, it might be useful if someone recognises the symptoms.

Re: Introducing Bronx
hiya id also think this was allergy related is there a change in routine or a different route you take him? if the allergy flares at several months it certainly seems related to where you are walking him

Re: Introducing Bronx
hrmmm it is a tough one... maybe i should walk a different route and see if that also helps...
he is still playful and what not, just itchy. Will be going vet on Friday to get some meds and then from there start him on the kangaroo mince only diet.

Re: Introducing Bronx
Hi from us too!
Allergens can be anything. We had a dog who was allergic to a lot of grasses, fir trees and some fungi, as well as foodstuffs. The best thing is to keep a note of when you first see a reaction reappear and look into what has changed then. It might even be a plant in a neighbour's garden that is flowering or something. Good luck, allergies are a pain!

Re: Introducing Bronx
thanks for the warm welcome everyone =)
took Bronx to the vet today and she gave him some antibiotics and some steroid to clear up the infection.... she thinks it may be a reaction to mosquito bits due to it only being on his back... so i have purchased some repellent for him...
