Re: Help with queenie
Hiya! What happened with Breezer? If you don't mind me asking. It may explain part of Queenies behaviour?

Re: Help with queenie
Was there anything to trigger the behaviour? Was it to do with toys, food or something?

Re: Help with queenie
I see. It's extremely unusual for any dog to attack their owner I hope your wife is okay. I remember you saying a while back that she was quite visibly underweight, do they think that she may have had something internal going on?
In regards to Queenie, not only has she lost her playmate she was involved in what sounds like a very serious incident of aggression - this will have had an effect on her, as well as the distress within the owners after the incident and possible changes in routine. Was the injured in the fight? Give her time and go back to basics, are you both feeling confident around her?

Re: Help with queenie
Yeah my wife's OK just abit nervous about other dogs now and we had managed to get some weight back on breezer and they didn't say anything but I did notice her eyes looked bloodshot.
Yes it was very serious to the point a neighbour called the police who thought breezer could be a pitbull and yeah queenie had a few puncture wounds witch have healed and yes we're going on like nothing has happened to a degree.
I shall give that a try with regards to giving her some time and going back to basics and thank you very much.

Re: Help with queenie
What a very unfortunate thing to happen. I do wonder if there was something going on with Breezer that nobody knew about. Glad to read that your OH is ok though.
As suggested by Rachel, this will have had an effect on Queenie for all those reason Rachel listed and she may also be feeling that Breezer isn't here because of what happened. I would do as Rachel suggests as Queenie is still young and will re learn quickly. I would also offer plenty of reassurance and love too.

Re: Help with queenie
Your wife's nervousness is completely understandable but - and I know this will sound hard - try not to be tense and worried as Queenie will pick up on it and it could cause a problem that would otherwise not be there.
As Rachel says, it's extremely unusual for a dog to attack its owner or any person for that matter. There will always be a reason and that won't be just breeding. Even if Breezer was a pit (type), that wouldn't be the reason behind the behaviour. It does sound like there was something physical going on somewhere and this was a reaction to that.
With regards to training, definitely find a good trainer/behaviour specialist to help you, but at the same time I'd just go back to basics and do lots of fun training stuff with Queenie, as if she was a puppy. Make life fun and happy, play with her, and give her things to think about with mind-toys and stuff like that (so thinks like hiding treats in old cereal packets or round the garden for her to find).
Incidents such as yours are awful - I've been through a nasty one myself - and they do take time for everyone to come through. But you do if you set keep looking forwards and not back, and keep working positively towards the future.

Re: Help with queenie
We had queenie out in the park today she was really excited to see other dogs apart from dogs that resembled breezer.
I don't mean to blame breezer's suspected breed I would never do that it just the way the officer said it as if to say I must be stupid to have a staffy with a suspected pit(type) so the dog handler got called out who has already met queenie and deemed them both as staffs.
My wife seems alot more relaxed with queenie and queenie is taking her time being very gentle with my wife and kids even more so than normal.

Re: Help with queenie
It sounds like you'll be fine, James. I'm gathering this is all really recent, it'll take time but you'll get there.
If Queenie sees a dog that worries her, just stand with her and relax. Make a point of breathing out audibly, so she can hear you relaxing. Wait for her to relax if she can, then quietly walk her away.
Queenie sounds a true gem.

Yeah it was 2weeks ago now she's doing well considering everything.
She definitely is a gem would be lost without her.
