Please help..
Had Mackey at the vet yesterday (3 months old). My wife asked vet when we should have him neutered. Vet said between 6 months and 1 year to give him time to develop more as far as a his broad head and muscle development. This made sense to me and really got me thinking. I def want to let him develop as much as possible but don't want to wait too long. Im not looking for people to tell me not to have him neutrered, because I definitely plan on getting it done. i guys what I would like to see is some pics of males who where neutered and at what age they where done. I want to see that if i get him done at say 9 months, when he is 2 he will still be stocky and looking like he should. please post some current pics and tell me what age your boy was when he was fixed.. Thanks so much!!!!!

I moved this to puppy chat Mike, should get a better response here. I have no idea about your question as I've only ever had girlies

No advice either I'm afraid. We got Eccles from Dogs Trust and they gave us an appointment to come back to have it done when he is 6 months, I never considered there being any advantages to leaving it longer.

Re: Please help..
We rescued our boy and he had already been neutered by them at 7 months and is perfectly fine and stocky, however when we had a behaviourist come to see him (he had some really bad habits and was still mouthing at 10 months old) he told us that he would not neuter a male dog until he was one as the testosterone helps with their bone and joint development. Our boy weighs in at 26kg and is definitely a cross as he is much taller than a normal staffie (small boxer size) but we have no idea what he is crossed with. I would post a picture for you but I don't know how to x

Re: Please help..
I would say that 9 months is still too young. It isn't just the testosterone and growth plates that you have to worry about - a dog (or bitch) develops character and self confidence up until about 18 months old. Neutering before that time may affect his personality; maybe not, but in my mind it isn't worth the risk.
I'd wait until at least 18 months old.
I'd wait until at least 18 months old.

Re: Please help..
Imo id wait till your dogs fully matured before considering neutering as this will cause problems further down the line

Re: Please help..
i would say 9 months is to young not just for physical development but for mental development as well. i would say about 18months to 2 years if you are going to get him done.
