I must be Nuts
I have three, two 6 year olds and one 5 year old and i want another!
I want a little pup, him or her i wouldn't mind which, my lot get along with everything.
I looking forward to training them all over again from toilet training to lead training to socializing I am officially broody.
I'm looking forward to seeing them interact together.
I'm signed up with a few rescues but they seem to go quiet on me when i say i already have three..wonder why.
I work from home, i got a good income, well behaved dogs, well fed, well vetted but they still seem to go quiet, i think its something to do with allot of rescues thinking along the lines of "packs of dogs" anything more than two you got a pack and packs don't work well. I just got to be patient i suppose and wait to see if anything pops up.

Re: I must be Nuts
Nothing wrong with that hen as you are finding it difficult to get another dog may be worth taking a video of your dogs together in different situations this will show the rescue how well behaved your dogs are

I think a lot of us Staffy owners are nuts
Not sure I could do three let alone 4 but given your situation, well done you on even considering a rescue puppy

Re: I must be Nuts
Oh no! Too late! We've just rehomed a litter of 9 pups from Danaher, possibly staffy crosses.
We've had 3-4 for ages, all rescues and from different places. We got Nola when we already had 2 others - she's a failed Hearing Dogs rehome - then Bobbert while we already had the 3 others. Chaos is from AA Dog Rescue, and we got him while we had Bob and Nola, then when we lost Bob we (briefly) got Daisy from Danaher, and Millie is also from there. Ok, they know me well at Danaher because I volunteer there but I know their policy is to assess each applicant individually. You can get someone who should be perfect but who turns out to be a muppet, and you can equally get situations that shouldn't be right but that are.
So that's all to say that some rescues will rehome to multi-dog households.
However, many rescues are so busy that they probably don't have time to follow up on general applications. Your best bet, in my experience, is to keep an eye on websites and other places where they advertise, then go there if there is a dog you are interested in.
Where are you, by the way?

I think rescues cause a lot of the problems there is with so many dogs being in rescues. I honestly don't think i would rescue from them at the moment as much as that is bad.

Re: I must be Nuts
I'm trying to think of rescues I've had contact with who might be worth tracking.
http://www.hoperescue.org.uk/dogs
http://www.friendsoftheanimalsrct.org.uk/history.html
http://www.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/index.html
The DogPages site seems to have ground to a halt but I used to have contacts with all of these and they seemed very much focussed on what's best for each dog.
Danaher, where I volunteer, will rehome across the country subject to home check, so keep an eye on us too, even though so far away.
http://www.rspcaessex.org.uk/adoptadog.html
Lexii, that is a really bizarre thing to say. I'm not sure how much direct experience you have of rescue centres but what you're saying is certainly not my experience as an adopter from 4 different centres and as a regular volunteer. They don't always get it right but the try their best in what are very difficult situations, and I certainly can't see how they can be the cause of rescue problems!

Re: I must be Nuts
We got our staffy cross pup from Dogs Trust last year. They had their longest ever dearth of pups and we waited 2 months (which I was told was unheard of as staffy staffy x pups go in so regularly). We rang every day til a litter came in and sure enough, the first one were staffy x JRT. We raced across and reserved one (as we were already on the puppy waiting list). So I'd recommend Dogs Trust - if you go ahead of time and get on the list, then just ring, ring, ring til pups come in.
Assuming they will rehome to you with 3 already. (I don't see why any rescue wouldn't and rather than phone, I'd go in so they can see you face to face when filling in the forms - maybe even have your 3 in the car so you can bring them out to show them they are settled and good dogs?)

Re: I must be Nuts
I think I spotted some new pups at Danaher yesterday. I walked past them going to get another dog from his kennel and when I was back in reception it was silly busy so I couldn't ask about them. I'm not sure what breed they are but I think there are 4 and I'd say maybe 5 weeks or so at the moment.
If Essex isn't too wildly far for you, call them on 0300 111 4321.

Good luck Amelia, that dog looks like an absolute darling.
Re problems caused by rehoming centres - I know a few centres feed their dogs pedigree chum because they get donations from them and it's not the best food, Gizmo goes a bit hyper when he's eaten it. They really can't afford anything better for the money they run on.

Re: I must be Nuts
Think i messed up....they asked for proof off my landlord about having another dog, i got said proof but she wasn't sure because it only said about having "A" dog even though they know what i moved in with but i also think i might of insulted her...
Told her i would take my landlord to court before i give up my babies and that they don't question or kick women out who pop out a kid every year and those kids are more destructive and menacing than my dogs. Not heard off her since.

Re: I must be Nuts
Oh. That doesn't sound brilliant. Might it be an idea to check with your landlord first and get something in writing before the next attempt (and possibly without the bit about taking him to court, and women and babies!).
I'm going to Danaher on Monday to photograph the puppies...

Re: I must be Nuts
I did have something off my landlord but because i only mentioned one dog to them, they only mentioned be being allowed "this" dog and they didn't mention my others.
Been in touch with my local pound, they have a 4 month old female down there that i am going to look at tomorrow.

Hold on a second... what?! Your sibling dogs had a litter? Why were they with a pet sitter together when in season?

What?! You have sibling dogs, left them in tact, left them with a pet sitter and the sister dog got pregnant and had a litter by her brother? Really?! Little irresponsible don't you think?! Perhaps you should consider getting your dogs neutered?

Re: I must be Nuts
I got my boy at 12 weeks, two months later i got my oldest girl off another guy who was moving and going to dump her in the pound, she was "supposed" 4 month old when my boy was 5, "not related as far as i knew"
so at 4 month and 5 month, yes i left them with a sitter when i had to go to Ireland for a week turned to nearly 3 weeks. none due to hit sexual maturity, so why not?
Got home, place was a mess, refused to pay sitter in full, month or so later my girl started gaining weight took her to vets found out she was pregnant to late for pill, vet suggested against abortion for such a young dog, had five female pups. kept blondy as she had an umbilical hernia and wanted to fix it before rehoming, but couldn't give her up, Guy i got Cassie off moved back home once his building was finished and told me she's his sister. they have been spayed and neutered and so has their daughter...

Yes, she is great, at six month they fixed the hernia and spayed her, they are all fab, Lexi is doing good typical puppy behaviour, chewing on me and my stuff, arguing with me if i tell her no, tiring the adult dogs out....worst time to get a new puppy though for those thinking about it..is bonfire month..i say month because thats what it is now, not just one day its goes on for weeks, started her last week and been disrupting and driving my three dogs nuts since, luckily Lexi doesn't see the fireworks as bad right now just wondering why the adults are hiding and not wanting to play at night with her.
