eye drops
How the devil do you get them near a dogs eye without it resulting in a wresting match and drops flying everywhere but the eye

Re: eye drops
Sit behind them and hold their head backwards, they can't move. Lexi got so used to it i would be able to just do it without trying lol

Re: eye drops
a while back .. Lady had an issue with her right eye
looked like an irritation to the eyelid .. was all red
and she would constantly scratch it ..
one morning .. day 3 of issue .. she woke up with the eyelid glued together ..
tried eye drops .. she used every trick to avoid them ..
including brute force .. and she'd shake and pant ..
quite obvious she hated them ..
and she knew when i went to get the eye drops bottle
even if i attempted to hide the fact .. she'd run to the front door in a state of anxiety ..
ok .. not having her getting stressed out .. so ..
tried an eye 'spray' .. i.e. it sprays onto the eyelid with the eye closed ..
she was having none of that either ..
then i read online about using camomile tea bags ..
make cup of camomile tea ..
then use the teabag to wipe over the eye
( camomile tea has anti-bacterial qualities a.f.a.i.k. )
it worked a treat .. eye irritation cleared up within 24 hours .. and Lady didn't mind the treatment at all ..
she even licked a tea bag ( Not the one i used to wipe her eye )

Re: eye drops
I do it this way. Hold the dropper in you hand with your hand closed round it. Sit with your other arm loosely round the neck, hand on the face, then start stroking with the hand holding the dropper. Move your hand round till it's coming over the back of the head, in between the eyes. From that point, you should then be able to use the non-dropper hand to steady the head and, if you're really good, open the eyelid while you bring the dropper in to drop.
The key for me is not holding the dog in a vice like grip, which will make a dog react even if you're not going to do anything, and not approach with the dropper from the front which says 'coming to get you!'. Keep it out of sight and keep things relaxed, and you should find it much easier. I've got ointment into the eye of a feral pony this way, so Iza should be a breeze!
