Staffy vs Pit bull genetics

What are the main differences between the two breeds genetically , as in are the original Bull Breed and Terrier breed used the same in both breeds but with different amounts of each used or are the starting points different ?

I think the main difference is purely size Brian, however, I'm no expert

i know there natues pretty much the same and theres a good size difference

Hi I think mainly size and weight, but also the stafford it bred to a standard that is recognised by various kennel clubs whereas the pitbull isn't.
They essentially came from.the same dog but the stafford has been more bred for show purposes these days whereas the pitbull is still.more true to what it was originally bred for, it's working abilities

Of the pitbull's that i've spent time with, they're really similar - perhaps slightly higher drive/energy. And of course, much bigger.

The American Pit Bull Terrier comes from mixing Bull Terriers from here with dogs already in the US e.g. Bull Dogs (American kind). There are also various physical differences, DNA will give you information as to the breed background of a dog. The show version of all Bull Terriers exist in various states in the US but not here. APBT, American Staffordshires, English Bull Terriers, and min EBTs. APBTs are not just large Staffies by the way.

They do deffo have a higher drive, they are used more for there working abilities even still, there isn't as many staffords around that work these days

The Stafford arose from breeding the old style bulldog with native terriers in the UK. These crosses produced a Bull & Terrier which eventually was honed to become the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The Pitbull came from the Bull & Terrier dogs that travelled with their owners from the UK to the USA (before the breed became the Stafford) and were then bred to local dogs. So although they come from the same background, they evolved separately.

Apbt lines have several different clics to make them what they are and the required working dog. you can have hours of fun arguing over Scots V's Johnson and never win. I personally use pure staffords and working sibes for a great working dog that will pull with all it's heart.
