Buses? Empty Buses?

Post by Stan and Holly Mon Aug 10 2015, 15:03

Anyone else use them with their dog?

I've been using the local buses for the last six months easily with no problems at all and Stanley's been extremely popular even with the drivers. On Saturday though I'd got a return ticket as usual and as I went to get on a virtually empty bus the driver said I wasn't allowed with a dog and then that he had to be muzzled, it was the law.
Any opinions on this thanks. confused

That's not something I've heard of before Ian, wonder if the driver was simply having a bad day Sad

In London they usually say you have to go upstairs, but I've never heard anything about being muzzled. Only time I got refused was when there was already a dog on the bus.

There aren't any actual laws regarding buses and dogs that I can find from googling.

its either the driver trying to refuse because its a staffy or the driver having a bad day. the only way they could refuse if your dog showed signs of aggression and there was a guide dog on the bus. even then they can tell you to get the next bus.

Buses? Empty Re: Buses?

Post by Stan and Holly Sat Aug 15 2015, 21:05

That's the funny thing, every time I've got on the bus Stanley's been Mr Popular. It's only a fifteen minute trip and anyone within reach of him fuses him and tells me all about their dogs etc. Some say they want to take him home, even one of the drivers got out of her seat and fussed him and said "Would you like to come with me"? Not an aggression problem at all, if anything people are amazed at how docile he is. As one woman with a dog of her own on the same bus likes to regularly say, "He's so dopey". She meant docile. Big Grin I've heard somewhere that it can be a personal thing for the individual driver. He did actually say sorry as we got off again. I had a return ticket so obviously I used the buses prior to meeting him. Another misery guts once said "You're supposed to ask first". Never known them to refuse money though. It costs me £3.10 return to the High St and then £5.30 for an all day ticket return to Stevenage. It was a bad day bus wise for others too as buses weren't turning up and people were coming along to our stop to see if they came to ours. We got on an 81 and then it changed numbers to an 80 and took us on a trip around before returning us to the same place again. I asked the driver about it before I got off and he said it was an 88, not an 81. 88s don't exist in this area. We got off and went back to square one to wait again and a bus turned up as an 80 and flipped its numbers again to an 81A. The same driver that had punched my ticket with 81 written on it, I was sweating on not having to pay again and he was alright with it. What a mess. I think  I should complain to someone about it really. PS my sister has had two guide dogs together and our dogs have been fine and slept on each other's beds etc. Unfortunately one of them got attacked recently and is showing signs of aggression towards other dogs. Sad Chapter two. Blushing
