So many gems!
As some of you may know, I've gone back into rescue work part time, and met so many wonderful staffies and staffie crosses! I can't believe some of their stories Two in particular have stolen my heart.
This girl, Daisy, is 10 and was in a family of 4. Daisy had a horrible time and was punched, kicked, and beaten by the whole family, children included. She was only fed when remembered and never walked, made to stay in her bed when in the home. Despite this, although she's a little worried, she loves everybody and is such a bright, funny, cheeky little girl! She's such a busy body and loves her walks. If I didn't have Bug she would be on my sofa! Absolutely fallen head over heels for her.
The other is Barney - he is 2 years old and sooo gorgeous. Barney was brought into the rescue because at 2 years old he was on his 5th (yes, 5th!!!) home and when they didn't want him they took him to the vets to be destroyed. Barney is a little manic at the moment but is learning the ropes and has made some firm doggy friends at the centre. He is having a meet with Bug in the next few weeks to see if they can be adventure buddies. Just look at him!

Re: So many gems!
Oh I know, Rach. The kennels are full of gems, each and every single one of them just gems. But why do so few people see this side of them? It's a tragedy, isn't it?
And I'm not just talking about the staffies, although there's a stupidly high proportion of kennel spaces taken up by them and they often have the worst stories. But each dog is special, if only people would see.
I'm smitten by Gunner at the moment. He's a big rottie x , just so gentle and loving, yet playful at the same time. But he's a transfer from another centre so has failed to catch anyone's eye yet.
I'm so pleased you're back to doing what you do so well, Rach. Those gems need you, and I have a feeling you need them too.

That's why I could never work with a dog rescue organisation - I'd be round these ****'s houses with a baseball bat, I swear to God.
Those Staffies are gorgeous, Barney is amazing looking.

Yes, it does make you want to do unspeakable things but by helping out, whether it's just from time to time or on a more regular and committed basis like Rach you are doing what you can to put some of the wrongs they've done right. And one side of helping the RSPCA is when you know that an owner is being prosecuted, or better still gets prosecuted.
I meant to say, Rach, they are fab photos. Did you take them?

Re: So many gems!
Thank you for your lovely comments. It does hurt seeing these poor little dogs, and it does make you feel resentful and angry - those feelings are why I quit my job in rescue last year and started working with people, to try and build that relationship back up and see the good in them. Now i'm back part time, and still working with people.
Definitely do need them Liz. Gunner looks like such a gentle soul! I can't claim the photo's as mine - Ruth, who runs the rescue took them. I'm so in awe of her, she does so much!

Re: So many gems!
Looks like Barney may be coming into foster here, if Bug accepts him. Ruth feels that he needs a little more one to one but loves his female friend at hers, he's very friendly and fine to be left which is a plus! Just need to train him with the basics and recall etc.

Re: So many gems!
Fingers crossed! Spent a few hours with him yesterday and have seen him off lead playing with other dogs. He prefers females, hasn't shown any aggression to males but gets a bit worried if they're too boisterous with him. He's such a big baby really, I accidentally trod on his toe and he squealed and then licked me to death! Happy little chap out walking, walks past dogs no problem. Fine with sheep. He's completely full of beans, so hopefully will be able to keep up on our walks, and hoping to get him into swimming. He knows sit and is a bit of a Velcro dog so recall isn't a problem as he doesn't really leave your side! Got a good feeling and very excited to train him, just hope he passes the Bug test on Wednesday!
