Latest DAF order
Not really impressed. Most of the mince packs have a green tinge to them and they were all delivered almost fully defrosted! Will be having words tomorrow!

Re: Latest DAF order
So the lady on the phone really wasn't interested. It was just "Oh it should be fine. See how it goes and if it is off then we can exchange it for you" ...meaning what see how Bane gets on with it and if he has mega sickness and diarrhoea then they will exchange it?
They've always been so helpful before. We tried one of the greenish packs today and it just looked awful when defrosted. The texture was completely off and just didn't even look like meat so they will be getting a call again tomorrow.

Re: Latest DAF order
See how it goes?!? Wow can't believe they actually said that. I would of thought that a dogs health would be priority and they wouldn't want him to eat anything that could possibly make him ill. Good luck on your call tomorrow.

Re: Latest DAF order
I know tell me about it!! They can tolerate a lot more than what we can, and I'm sure some dogs looove a bit of 2 week old buried mouldy meat, but it's not the point and not what we have paid for.

Re: Latest DAF order
This is one of the reasons I'm putting off trying Bo on raw (aside from he didn't like it the first time but he might have got over that now). I've only come across one company that deliver in refrigerated vans, and will unload into your freezer if you're not in, and that's Nature's Menu. The rest seem to pack in cool-box type things and I am very suspicious about whether these keep the food at safe temperatures in the summer, especially as the consignment can take two or three days to arrive.

Re: Latest DAF order
We are considering raw for Theia, DAF isn't far from us, so that's one concern I don't have. But I have also found a few raw suppliers within a short drive, so I could pick and choose at my leisure!! My butcher is also really good giving us bones with loads of meat on for nothing!!

Re: Latest DAF order
Dogface: Our DAF orders are always just delivered in cardboard boxes. I have never been in when the meat has been delivered, it's always the OH so I would imagine it's all just stacked up in the refrigerated vans?
We've never had a problem with it before so I don't really know what has happened this time. I know that you can defrost and refreeze meat and it's absolutely fine for dogs, so if it is a bit soft when it gets here it's never been a problem. It's just never had a green tinge to it and has always looked pretty fresh!
Lynn you are so lucky if you have nearby ones! I can't seem to find any and the natures menu is so expensive from the shops around here.
I've asked at all of the local butchers and none of them would give away free bones or scraps or even let me buy them! The only one that we had success with makes raw minces for dogs already so they charge for it and sell bags of meaty bones but again it's expensive and the bones are always giant knuckle bones.

Re: Latest DAF order
There's a great site and Facebook page called raw feeding rebels, join and have a look through their resources, lists and lists of suppliers all over the country.
Don't tell the butcher what it's for, tell them you make all your own stock and broths! Some butchers don't want to give to raw feeders for some reason!

Re: Latest DAF order
The mince with the green tinge and the weird texture, did you order tripe mince perhaps? Because when I've had tripe mince from DAF it obviously was greenish and as a mince, was completely rubbery and weird. Not bad weird, but odd.
If it wasn't the tripe then obviously that's completely unacceptable for any other mince to be that colour.
My food from DAF is usually at least partly defrosted by the time I get home and that's not an issue because it's not harmful for dogs is defrost and refreeze meat.

Re: Latest DAF order
That is a shame, I have just received my order from DAF and was all still nicely frozen, but I get mine delivered by UPS. Maybe it was a one off, bit odd.
