He's Back!
My poor little man what have we done! Op all went well, let's hope for a quick recovery
He's all snugged up on the sofa with me now fast asleep! We've even got some twitching and dreaming!
His little whimpers are so sad! The vet said that Staffs in particular are very vocal and whimpery with things like this! Anyone else found that?
I think he just needs loads of snugs! I've been dying to cuddle him all day!
Any advice for the next few days?

Aww bless him. The vets always say to keep them quiet (they don't know staffies) Lots of loving & games to keep his mind stimulated, like hide the treat or his favourite toy, oh & plenty of treats to cover your guilty conscience

Ah it's all done with now. Just try and stop him climbing anything for a few days Emma and no mad dashing about (Good luck with that ). He should be all ok after a few days once the wound heals over.

Re: He's Back!
my boy crawled over the stairs and fell asleep on them. i curled up with him for a while then he woke up and wanted a walk which we had a small one at 11pm. next day we were out and about and had our favorite photo ever sat on a bench together. I was a mess handing him over and the vet nurse had tears in her eyes when she saw his reaction at seeing me again. as did I...

He will be back to normal soon, brave boy. Iza got spayed on Monday and had massive energy spurt on Tuesday afternoon when i let her out for toilet i nearly had a heart attack it does break your heart when they stagger out the vets,

Re: He's Back!
Thanks everyone
Licking has started already! I can see he will be spending most of his time in his donut from here on out!
The first night wasn't too bad, the OH carried him up the stairs and he slept next to our bed. A few whiny moments but I think it's cos his blanket fell off
He's eaten a little bit of scrambled egg and been for a wee this morning! Just keeps staring at the door looking sorry for himself! only interested in milking the attention and making us feel bad!

Re: He's Back!
I would say with him being male be a good idea to keep doughnut on, i took mia to the vet i got her in last min as previous owner didnt say she hadnt been spayed x( anyway i had to get taxi home even tho its 5 mins walk home after struggling stairs she collapsed on the floor in the house i cried for hoursand said to myself if shes still like this in the morning shes going back. By morning she was bit better i sat up all night and kept an eye on her and done this 3 nights running and same second week she never even touched her stitches think she knew they were there. I have to say one of the most worrying times for me with mia when she had recovered i had peace of mind dogs wouldnt chase her being in season.

Re: He's Back!
I worked from home the day after and he was just curled up next to me 'helping' me type all day.
Good luck with the lead-only walks and keeping him quiet. gizmo's vet said "try and keep him quiet, i know tall order with a staff, but at the very least don't let him leap up to say hello to everyone"
frozen peanut butter kong.

Re: He's Back!
Well he's back to normal now! No more whining and he's eating well! Just waiting for him to go the toilet properly
The only problem we are having is he is jumping all over the place The incision looks pretty much the same as before so I don't think he's caused any damage, I can just tell we are going to have problems!
Mondays vet check can't come quick enough! Any advice guys? Even outside for a wee in the garden is going to have to be on lead!

Re: He's Back!
Colin I think he's gonna have to keep a lead attached to him at all times why don't they understand they need to be careful?!
Crystal I know how you felt the first night I couldn't leave him, the OH went to work so I spent the first few hours of the night trying to comfort him! I know the vet told us everything to expect but they don't half worry you the first day or two!

Re: He's Back!
It's horrible straight after the vet's. Bo had a bad few hours when I collected him, due to the anaesthetic, he was drooling and sitting with his ears back and shaking so hard he could barely stay upright. I put so many cushions and blankets and duvets in the living room it looked like a sheik's bedroom. Then suddenly he perked up and it was as if nothing had ever happened. I'd bought him an expensive cone from Amazon but he wouldn't wear it, so I just kept an eye on him and he never licked once. I did keep him on a short lead for the full 10 days and he seemed to understand he shouldn't run or jump. It took a couple of days for his pipework to start up again but that's due to the anaesthetic apparently.

Re: He's Back!
Poor Bo sounds like he didn't do well on the anaesthetic
Today it's as if nothing ever happened! He's back to his usual self! Wound is looking a bit swollen but the vet said that may happen and he hasn't helped himself to be honest!
We had to return his donut for a cone of shame this morning! It worked at the start when he was still a bit drowsy but now that he's feeling better he is a bit more determined and he has a neck like a giraffe Hasn't been to the toilet at all today either so a bit hmm...

Re: He's Back!
Ha ha... The cone !!! That's a pretty snazzy one I have to say.
Flo learnt a neat trick to get the cone off so we gave up in the end
Good to hear he's back to normal Emma, as for going to the toilet, give it time

Re: He's Back!
Oh no Iza that's naughty!
Had the vet nurse check today. She said he's still a bit swollen but the cut and everything looks ok. He's completely back to normal behaviour wise.
I'm just worried because it looks all wet and sticky this evening. I know he's been cuddled up asleep so probably just got a bit hot, but it looks gross! I wish I could have gone along to the check with the OH!
