Re: "The Dog Factory" on BBC iPlayer
It's not nice watching, but there's not too much that's very graphic. It's more about following the people, uncovering how puppy sales happen, that sort of thing.
There's a lot in there that I didn't know and that I think is important for us to know. I had no idea how many puppies sold in the UK through 'dealers' are bought as wholesale lots from Ireland - the more you buy the cheaper they are. I had no idea the extent of puppy farm sales, via dealers, through online sites such as Preloved. And just how many duped buyers end up with sick or even dead puppies, with no recourse.
It makes me even start to question whether back yard breeders really are the worst of the scum of the earth. These people take the word scum to a whole new depth.
If you can be brave, watch it. I personally feel it's important for as many people to know as possible.

Its not bad, there are some scenes that might be upsetting but nothing majorly graphic. As mentioned its more to do with tracking down the scum that does this through secret filming etc.
Re: "The Dog Factory" on BBC iPlayer
I saw this and thought it was so thorough and so brave, I emailed the journalist to tell her so - something I've never done before. I was really, very impressed. I am hoping that it has a knock on effect on legislation. I thought it was incredible, the way she tracked down and filmed these really frightening people and managed to get it all past the lawyers.
I agree with LizP - there is so much in it that I never realised. For example, what a puppy farm really is, up close, and also what passes for legal. Selling sick puppies to first time (and loving) dog owners. A few days later these tiny dogs die of parvo and their owners are devastated. She didn't go into how all these dogs get imported illegally into the UK via ferry without any trouble at all - ten or more of them at a time, in a small van. They must make a lot of noise and there is no way the customs people won't have noticed.
What made me feel really sick are the poor bitches who are bred from six times a year and whose litters are taken away from them more or less immediately.
