hi
I would like to come and say HI ,
I am the owner of a lovely white staff around 2 years old, hes such a lovely dog placid as anything but so excitable aswell
brilliant with my 3 kids, I am only 26 and I do work not on benefits and live in lovely house with large garden. you hear all the bad press on staffies but I went against what I heard and went from previous experience around them and I can say I made an excellent choice.
all I need to do is control some problems im having, I would like him to walk off leash any advice too

Re: hi
Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me (again)
Did you rescue ? You need to work on recall, get a long training line and let him get a little further each time before calling back and rewarding with praise and treats. It can take some time but keep at it and you'll be richly rewarded.
Do you have somewhere quiet where you can train away from distractions i.e other dogs ?

Re: hi
Ha ha... It's called trust
On a serious note, yes you can get trackers. My brother in law has them on his bloodhounds for this very reason. My Flo is a rescue and it took us 2 years to get the trust to let her off lead but she is off lead on all walks in the park now. She has good recall most of the time which isn't bad for a Deaf dog but she never goes too far away. Have a little faith and give it a go.

Re: hi
Hello from me and Pixee. I agree its called trust as Ian says.
It does take time. We stared off on a long lead too, just remember to keep feeding the lead or end up getting pulled over as happened to hubby . I also taught Pixee to stay in various room around the house and called her. She was always rewarded. Then out in the open, she was told to stay, we walked backwards so far, then called her again. From there, one of us would play with her, while the other would then call her, to see if we got her attention, as they can go deaf if they chasing something. It worked 99% of the time which was brillant. Just because you have your dog trained, dont ever give up the training. They love the training too. Ever now, out of the blue I will recall Pixee, just to make sure she still does come back to me. As I cant whistle, I use a clicker and whistle in one. I taught her my way and it works.
As Ian says have faith and give it ago.

Re: hi
Hi from me & Katy, as said above, try the long line & recall practise. With Katy I started indoors with her in another room, just calling her & rewarding when she came to me then started using a whistle (100% recall) admittedly outside with distractions recall can be delayed Just keep practising
