Roxy, 4yrs old and getting better all the time!
This girl is a bit special to me. She's Millie's mum.
Let me tell you a bit about her.
Roxy came into the centre last October with her 5 puppies, at the time just 6 days old. As far as we know, Roxy had already had at least 2 homes.
After weaning her puppies, Roxy wasn't in a very good place. She suffered from separation anxiety and clung to humans. She needed to be not just near them, but in physical contact. She loved massage even more than cuddles and when I did some t touches with her she just melted. Left on her own, she would make the most ghastly noises (I know where Millie gets her vocal ability from!).
Roxy was appalling with other dogs. Again, her vocals were amazing and she gave all the signs of being very unfriendly towards other dogs.
However...! She's come a long way since then and is now much more settled. She is learning to get on with other dogs and can be left in one of the compounds next to one very happily. The separation noise has all but vanished as well, and she's turning into a happy girl. She still loves human company but knows that we can leave her and it's not the end of the world.
Having said that, Roxy would still be best rehomed to a family where someone is around for large parts of the day, where she is the only pet, and where someone will take the time to continue the work socialising her with other dogs. Then she'll be perfect!
Roxy's thread is here: http://www.rspcaessex.org.uk/roxy11953.html, and you can open the adoption form from there if you wish to apply to rehome her. Alternatively, call 0300 1114321 or email reception@rspcaessex.org.uk.
