raw again.....might have to
Hello everyone.
So basically been having alot of issues. Most of which have been discussed in my post "some advice plz".
After nearly 2 years of up n down with our blue brindle bundle of......joy! (Sometimes bundle of naughty words lol) folk have suggested raw. We have tried it before and she went off it! She has a beef intolerance in canned food etc and has been on many high quality dry and the only time her feet werent being chewed was on the raw and i now think its a chicken allergy not just beef and grain as when we tried raw she never got chicken it was duck, venison, rabbit, tripe etc natures menu.
My reservations are im a germaphobe lol raw meat scares me, she was quite funny about the bones not really fussed by them, if she stopped eating ot again then what? I read all the faq section on natures menus site about how bacteria wont be shed through the coat n their meats are tested for salmonella etc amd the good thing is our dog never licks us so i think its fine but im just a bit freaked.
I do think its worth another try though so if i was to get some of the complete nuggets my questions are should i feed her twice still or can she be fed just once. Amd also for training treats is there something more natural i could use like maybe cooking a pork chop and chopping it up? I feel like its worth another go for her feet and ears sake amd i will prob see a behavioural improvement too.
What you all think

Re: raw again.....might have to
Rachel33- just wondered, am thinking maybe trying nature diet for now, cutting out the chicken as forthglade has chicken in most of them along with the main named meat.
Question is as i have thought we needed grain free but now am sure chicken is the culprit for the bad feet and ears, how do you think it will go with nature diet having 10% rice?
She likes a bit of crunch so if cutting out the kibble what sorts of chicken and grain free crunchy stuff do you think? Rawhide etc?
Shes soooo complex lol our other pooches in the past have ate whatever with no probs

Re: raw again.....might have to
I would just try her and see how she gets on with the rice, Bug is sensitive to grain but her skin is better than ever on ND. They have a fish one, a sensitive one, rabbit & turkey and lamb so lots of choice other than chicken. Crunch wise, I'm not really sure as a mixer would probably create havoc with her skin. What about chucking in some raw veggies? Raw brocolli and carrot are a fav for Bug, then she has meaty bones as treats for chewing and teeth cleaning

No worries! Forgot to say the sensitive one is salmon and prawn, and the fish is varied white fish. They bloody stink but Bug loves them!

Re: raw again.....might have to
Hope she is getting on well with it
We feed mainly raw minces and when it comes to making up Banes meals I get pretty covered in the stuff and I am still alive
I know the weather probably isn't best right now, but have you considered feeding outside?
As for treats, a boiled up pork chop sounds like it would hold up pretty well! There are also online recipes for different things like liver cake, tuna loaf and sardine oatcakes which are great!

Re: raw again.....might have to
When I was moving to raw my parents were massively against it using the salmonella argument but having looked into it for the food side of things there can be a fair risk unprocessed dog foods too not just raw.
When it comes to he handling side normal basic food hygiene, wash hands before and after, clean down surfaces etc, Ledger mostly has the mince packs from DAF for his size one days food comes in its plastic bag I defrost that bag in one of a couple of old take away containers and have a couple of forks just for his food, tbh there is very direct handling and I could always wear plastic gloves. He has his own old take away containers and a stay cool sandwich/lunch bag and ice packs for taking portions to my parents.
When it comes to bones/stuffed hooves/stuffed beef throttle/salmon portions in the summer he has those in the yard in the winter if it's something that could get a bit messy he has a towel to eat off which can be washed straight after, tbh he would have days on kibble where he just didn't eat it but on raw doesn't leave food (the only thing he has refused is pigs trotters but I'm more than ok with that lol)
