Back leg Growl
can anyone offer any advice, this is our 2nd staffy, she is 14 months old and has recently started to growel when we scratch the back legs or around the underneath of the back legs, she has never done this before and gets lots of attention but there must be a reason for this. I don't want to have to let her go but it really worrying as we have young kids around. I will take her to the vets to check there is nothing sinister but has anyone else experienced this ?

Re: Back leg Growl
Hi ya Pete, I split your post so you have your own. That way it will get more replies.
Is it a full on teeth showing growl and is there aggression with it ?
If there is then a vet check would be best to rule anything medical out.
If it's just a low growl with no other signs of aggression then it could simply be her way of letting you know that feels nice.

Thanks Ian,it wouldnt appear she enjoys it as often turns to move away from you,my wife was stroking the leg earlier and the growel got louder.she is fine when lying on her back and scratching all over

Re: Back leg Growl
In that case I would suggest that perhaps theres a reason she doesn't like being scratched there so a vets trip to rule out any medical issues would be wise. Also, could she be coming into season ?
It could also be as simple as not liking the scratches there and her way of saying no thanks. From your reply it doesn't sound like she's aggressive but just saying leave that area alone.

Re: Back leg Growl
I would agree fully with Ian. It sounds like maybe she is just uncomfortable with you scratching her there. If she had never done it before then a vet check would be beneficial to rule out any medical reasoning Hope she is ok!
