Kennel Cough Empty Kennel Cough

Post by jshrew Sun Feb 15 2015, 13:42

Poor Ledger started coughing in the early hours of Thursday morning and we had it confirmed yesterday at the vet that he has kennel cough Sad he is vaccinated so it's not as bad as it could be and the cough suppressant given by the vet is also helping but it's horrible watching him struggle when he has a coughing fit

Thankfully he is eating fine and still is desperate for walks though that is proving to be an interesting strategic experience each time we go out and he couldn't understand why we didn't go to flyball yesterday (haven't told him he has to have another 3 weeks off)

Just a warning to others that this is highly contagious and although most frequently passed in close contact I.e kennels or dog training classes it can be just from having contact with I.e. A tree where an infected dog has recently been. From the incubation time I think ours is most likely from a visit to pets at home as ours now also has a vet and a grooming parlour inside

Poor Ledger! How does that figure in that he was vaccinated against it?

Hope he has a speedy recovery! Maybe he'll forget about missing flyball Tongues Just keep it a secret!

It's like human flu jab, viruses being what they are mutate so you can still get it just not as bad

The suppressant stuff has worked and I have only heard him cough once in the last 48hrs just to add to his discomfort he has cut one of his paws but that has helped with his urge to cut his walks short
