Hello from Swansea
Greetings from Swansea!
It looks like we are going to be adopting a rescue staff who is 4yo. All trained up, a little growls with other dogs but generally can't be bothered. Only one incident of fighting and this may have been brought on by the other dog who was his friend in the pound and then another dog was introduced. They were split up
We have met him and he is a lover, he's beautiful. I'm here for tips as I'm happy to train ammd learn his ways but I a, scared a little if a bouncy dog comes along and it kicks off. I don't intend to take him off the lead, but he's a string boy. Any tips if this happens ? Or any good tips to prevent it would be appreciated. X

Re: Hello from Swansea
Hi and welcome to the Forum from Flo & me
Well done on the rescue for the first few days try and walk him in quiet areas so that you can both find out about each other. Once you've got a bit of confidence you'll need to keep calm and not stress about other dogs, he will feel the tension through the lead.
Go back to basics with the training, you may well find that he can do most of it already but it won't hurt to reinforce the training. The other thing to remember is that this is going to be a whole new environment so it may take a while to settle down and for him to relax.
If you need help or advice along the way just shout, we're here to help

Re: Hello from Swansea
Hi and welcome from Oz and me, great advice from Ian, Oz was a rescue at 4 unfortunately he doesn't like other dogs, it took us a while to settle down and know what to do when faced with other dogs around us, it will take a while for you to get to know each other but stay calm and persevere

Re: Hello from Swansea
Hi and welcome to the forum from me and the zoo xx
Congrats on the re-home - kudos to you
I think the way I would deal with it is to gain control over your dog, make sure he is sitting close to you and try and keep his attention all on you. I would also make sure I was vocal to the other dog owner to let them know that your dog is nervous around other dogs and you wouldn't want to stress either dog out or something unfortunate to happen. At the end of the day it's the person who's dog is not on a lead that is to blame for any altercations.
Good luck and just try to stay calm and relaxed xx

Hello from me and Cooper.
Great news that you have decided to rescue a Staffy. A lot of people have the wrong impression about these dogs however they are such loving animals.
Good luck and keep us posted how you are getting on.

Hello and welcome to the forum
Well done on the rescue! Like Ian said; walk your staff in quiet areas until you start to learn his behaviour and your staff can get used to your voice and commands. When you feel comfortable with this i'm sure you will feel confident letting him off in the future.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me
try to keep to quiet areas rather than busy parks for walks if you can. Well done for rescuing.
